I havent had a bike since i was about 10 years old. It was a little yamaha 80 four stroke. I'm now 21 (soon to be 22) and would like to start riding trails again. Ive been told the KDX is the best. Is this the best bike for my application?

There are a lot of holes in your scenario descrpition (I.E. - your size, buying used or new, type of dealers in the area, companion riders bikes, demographics about riding area....). Regardless of any of this the KDX is a great beginning and, sometimes, ending! If you are looking at used there are a lot of issues to be covered that are outside of the "brand name" box. If this is the case, find a friend/relative that knows bikes to look at your choice BEFORE you buy!
By the way, Yamaha never made an 80cc 4 stroke trail/dirt/streetbike
) I am laughing with you - NOT AT YOU!!!

oops i meant 2 stroke...the same found in todays PW80. Mine was a '86 or '87 BW80 the one with ATV wheels/tires. As for your response i'm 5'11" 155# looking to buy used. No more than $2,500. All trail riding. I went and looked at a KDX and a xr250. Like the KDX. thanks

The KDX 200 gets my vote. They're sweethearts. And at your size, a custom fit.

Ats ok, just wanted to be sure you knew the diff. Those BW80's were fun little bikes! Sounds to me like you are headed in the correct direction with the KDX - the XR's are fun too but they are puttzy and heavy. Again, take someone with you that knows bikes, you should easily be able to find a nice clean KDX for under 25 - I would expect that special one from the original owner with low hours on for that kinda money! If I couldnt find it I would save a little longer and buy new (some GREAT deals out there right now)!!
Man there aint nothin like a new bike

I bought a kdx 200 in 92 and have had ever since. My son grew into it and rode it til he went to college. I still ride it 1-2 times a week. I have a Suzuki rmx 250 but for trails I like the kdx the best.

KDX is an awesome bike. I got mine (96 KDX 200) about 9 months ago and it was mint condition. $1750.00

My first bike after 15 years was a KDX good engine there. Just remember that it will be heavier and the geometry is different. KDX is shorter and taller as opposed to MX bike. I ride CR and like it much better, but that is me. You should try to ride like a RM and a KDX and see what you think if you can.
