Aria Helmet

I'm looking to buy a new helmet and a local bike shop has an Aria MX/a helmet in my size on a clearance table. They have had it for a while (a few years maybe) but it has never been used. It's snell 95 and dot rated and has an original price of $318.00. It is really comfortable and the color is ok, I can buy it for around $125.00, but before I buy, I thought I would ask for comments about it. Should I be concerned at all that it may be 3 to 4 years old?

oops, typo in the thread name " Arai"

Never heard of it, but probably a safe bet... Arai makes great helmets.

I've been told that helmets DO have a shelf life, and the interior will break down even from only sitting on the shelf. Fact or fiction I cannot confirm, but maybe someone more knowledgable can.
That is a steal for the helmet, as long as it's not "expired" I would snag it!

Your best bet would be to call Arai and see what they have to say. All their helmets come with a 5 year warranty so you should really be okay. I bought my first Shoei that was on the shelf for 2 years and no doubt it was an AMAZING helmet and saved my head more than once. Since then I have bought another Shoei

Just a follow-up on this topic. I found out that this Arai helmet was 10 years old (they stamp the mfg date on the chin strap - snell 95 apparantly doesn't have anything to do with the year 1995). I e-mailed Bell Helmets (couldn't get through to Arai) and asked them: "I have found a new helmet but it has been on the shelf for 8 to 10 years. Is
it still safe??"
The reply I got: "We recommend every 5 years and you might prefer a newer helmet with a higher safety standard."
Looks like the "shelf life" of a new helmet is simply the changes in safety standards over the years. Not really an integrity issue.
Anyway, I didn't buy this helmet. I bought a new Thor svs4 $125.00 snell 2000 and DOT approved. I like it so far.
