hey, i am lookin for a MX bike.... my friend has a 2000 cr125 that screams and his cuzin has a yz250f its fast but when my friend rides the cr125 he smokes the kid on the 250f....im going to be riding mx alot and occasionally woods. I like the 4 stroke but the 2 stroke is so much quicker. i dont know what to get. can u guys help me out thanks

The reason your friend on a CR125 beat the kid on a 250f is because the kid on the cr125 is a better rider. The 250f is a strong bike, which in stock forms, makes more hp and more torque than the cr125 but its alittle heavier. If I could choose, I'd pick the 250f because it could haul me around faster than the cr125, or any 125 2stroke, and I could probably throw it around easy enough. It all depends on personal preference and what you plan on doing with it.

YZ 250f in a heart beat. All the reports and tests I have read dog the CR 125 for it's total lack of power!

itd all in the rider not the bike, i will say though my brothers 2000 cr125 is not a bad bike at all, bottom is a little weak but mid-top rips

If you base your decision on magazine reviews, you'l get the YZf without a second thought. All depends on the power delivery and overall ride type that you like. I've ridden the '02 250f and it was enjoyable to ride, especially in the wet. But i found it a fair bit heavier than my Cr125. Im a bit of a 125 specialist, so i know how to get the best out of it. For a beginner, i think a smooth 250f would be easier to go faster on. But the more competant a rider you are, the smaller the performance difference will appear between the two

Well even though i am a honda fan a yzf would def. be the better choice, but then you got the crf450 or the crf250r or crf250x, they are coming out in 2004, but if u want better ergos and a better suspension and a lighter bike then go with the cr125, but if u want pure four stroke power then the yzf will be the better choice

get the yz250f instead of the cr125, that kid thats on the 2000 cr125 maybe faster than the on riding the 250f, its not the bike really so much the rider, unless they were drag racing which is not real racing, put them 2 on a track lets see when the gate drops

One thing to consider is that riding a 125 2-stroke will make you a much better rider in the long run. You learn better clutch control and how to maintain momentum.

If you are going to be racing I suggest a 125 b/c of what it will teach you. The YZ250F is by far my favorite bike in the world but it is easy to be lazy on.

Just a question. WHY is it always a cr 125! Whats wrong with yamaha, suzuki, kawasaki or ktm?

Posted by: truespode---------------------

They aren't red and his favorite color may be red

They are all good and it comes down to local support and local dealers in my opinion.

I don't no the 2000 CR125 is an awsome bike and my friend has one that he can beat my neighbor on his YZ250 bored to a 309 or somethin(btw its for sale) . They raced on old train tracks and off the start the yz won but farther down to cr blew past him. But i actually never even saw a 250f so its up to you.

Unless you are stuck on red plastic it would be wise to check out other bikes in the 125 class that make more power than the Honda. Both the KTM & Yamaha would offer better combo MX/trail power than the Honda. Heck the SX125 was pretty much the only thing able to run off the gate with the 250F last season. Lot's to consider before just randomly making a choice based upon somebody elses bike. What's the local dealer like, do they stock the parts you might need? What are their hours of operation? Do they support dirt biking or just sell them as part of their bigger street bike sales program? Buy the bike that works for YOU.

over the last fwe years honda has not had that great of power yet there handling has been very good. off the start the yzf would take the holeshot, but over time the 125 would pass it because it is quicker in the corners and lighter in the air.but unless your like a pro, it depends on the rider more than the bike. hope that helps.
