If you haven't read this yet check it out. Pretty harsh words.

someone posted it in the general board
i'm really starting to hate all the booers, car is a good guy and hes fast as hell! how can you boo him? i'm not a RC fan (roncada/langston fan) but unless he does some Really bad to hurt another rider, i'm not gonna boo him

I like Ricky a lot, and I don't boo him either, but Travis is very well liked. People want to see what her can do, and don't want to see him taken out or reinjured. I see that logic too. I don't think people should be bashed because they want to boo someone. Not all champions are well liked. I've heard plenty of people bash McGrath, and he's totally likeable.
Let bygones be bygones...

After you strip away the brashness from Buckwheat statements I think his point is very well taken. For whatever reason I'm not a big RC fan but I respect the crap out of him! He epitomizes MX/SX. He has and does live his life for one thing, to kick butt on the track. He doesn't offer excuses and always comes back swinging after a defeat. We don't know how lucky we are to have him out there raising the bar to new levels. Look at how fast he has made everyone else in the last two years. He definitely has my respect!

I have to agree with Buckwheat. Even the statements about California fans. It seems that race fans in other states are much more respectable than here in California. The track that I grew up on was a 1/2 called Ascot. It was a brutal dirt track that took the lives of many young racers. Sometimes several in one season.
There was always a group of drunks in the stands that would cheer every time someone would hit the crash wall. This made those of us that were out there risking our lives for them very mad. It was a very unforgiving crash wall and if you hit it at speed you got hurt or worse.
Racing in other states, especially in the mid-west, the fans were totally different. They would cheer when it was appropriate and would be silent when something bad happened. They would come into the pits after the races and invite you to their homes for dinner and to spend the night. They didn't know us from Adam, they just knew we were a long way from home and out there doing our best and they appreciated it.
'Racing is rubbin'. It's just part of the deal. you shouldn't get upset if someone runs into your faviorite rider. Nine times out of ten, they didn't to it on purpose. If you don't have the cajonies to get out there and do it yourself, you should have respect for those that do.
After the races at Ascot they used to let the fans into the pits. They would turn the pit lights out and it was very dark. We used to leave our loading ramps up on the back of our trucks after we loaded our bikes up and sit and watch the drunks stumble over the loading ramps. They would fall flat on their faces, spilling their beer all over the place. Just wanted to give them a little taste of that Ascot dirt.

I love what Hannah had to say!!! I am not a RC fan either but I was yelling at the TV when I heard the crowd booing him. I was still worked up about Jeremy retiring and then these posers boo the second finest rider of the modern era. My wife had to tell my girls to leave the room before I let loose some colorful words. Anyway I hate all this personality driven crap!!! I love good hard racing and we were treated to some at Anehiem.
The best race I ever saw was a flattrack race with more bumping and ramming in the final than all the heats that day in Anehiem and when it was over they interviewd the winner and he complemented the other racers for how much they wanted to win and giving him a memory to last forever and he meant it, the guy was breaking up when he was talking and half of us old moto heads teared up as well.
My point is that it's all in your perspective. This guy was up against some of the toughest competitors in his sport and he was thrilled to be out there swapping leather with them, and we were more than thrilled to watch it. Who cares what brand of bike the guy was on or whether we like his post race interview style, it's all about the racing!! One man against all the others, doing battle at a level so far over our heads that the only way we can experience it is from the stands. RC has worked his whole life to attain this level of skill and he certainley doesn't deserve to be booed for a silly little bump that wasn't even his fault!!!!

It's the price that has to be paid to bring in the big money sponsers. Along with them comes the "non-rider" fan, who really just doesn't get it. We'll just have to get used to it.

Well said, Ziggypop. I concur 100%.

I loved Hannah's comments and I agree with him. I also agree with Vic's observation that big money and advertising and has brought in a lot of non-racers. The more mainstream that motocross and supercross becomes, the more booing and bad conduct we'll see from the fans. Look at how much they like to boo quarterbacks at NFL games.
89er...I loved your Ascot stories. I'm a former white plate carrier myself, #57p, and yessir, Ascot was quite a place and very unforgiving. That wall at Ascot sure claimed Ted Boody in '88, along with many before him. It sure is a shame that Ascot and Santa Fe are gone.

You Nailed it Vic!!
I didn't even think about all the non riders who are watching our sport now. I guess you can't complain about an increaesed fan base but it sure does have some down sides. With 70,000 fans I guess your bound to attract a fair share of boneheads. I don't think any ex-racer would have boo'ed what he saw in anehiem.
