I've got a 02' S10 with the 4.3 and trying to figure out why the AC cycles on and off even in freezing weather? The switch is off and I get heat but it still cycles and I can feel the hoses and evaporator? freezing up like it's running?

If the defroster is on at all, the AC will cycle no matter the temperature to reduce the humidity. Perhaps thats it.

That's what someone else just told me too, must be it. It is loud though and makes you think theres something wrong with the front end, constantly clicking!

My 85 Chev full size does this too.

WHEN IN DEFROST MODE A/C CYCLES ON AND OFF THATS THE WAY IT WORKS

the A/C always cycles. If it didn't, it would probably freeze up and not work at all when you need it.

On my 98 chevy with the 5.7, the pump will cycle when the hvac controls point to anything with the defrost icon even with the blower off. I was paranoid that I was loosing mileage and didn't like the noise so I always kept the selector in the floor/vent position. No a/c cycling at all, silence again. Most folks recommend running the a/c occasionaly to keep it lubed and the juices flowing, we're talking once a month for 15 minutes.
Your truck is operating correctly.
