CRF450 Exhaust

What company makes the best exhaust system for the CRF450 in terms of sheer horsepower? On a side note, why are they so much more expensive than two-stroke pipes? Technologically speaking and from a materials standpoint, the prices being asked seem way overblown.

An '03 CRF450 That is.

They are so expensive because the consumer is more than willing to pay the price. Guys are just waiting in line to buy them. The aftermarkets will charge what you will pay. How they can charge $180 for head pipe is beyond belief. It's a piece of bent SS tubing. For the same price you can have a 2 stroke pipe that has been stamped out, hand welded and plated with much more labor required. If Pro-Circus sold dog biscuits for $200 a bag people would buy them.
I still can't figure out why anyone needs more power than a 450 produces stock. On a 250F sure, it can use extra boost. A 450F?, C'mon is there really anybody who can use ALL, I mean every bit of that power? There are guys out there who own these 450s who have never even opened up the throttle enough to experience even half of the available power, yet they have an exhaust system on their bike that cost 15% of what the entire bike did. I just don't get it. I must be a wuss, A YZ450F had way too much power for me to effectively use. I went back to a YZ250. By the way, I race vet pro........
Which pipe makes the most sheer HP?, I don't know.............Everybody claims that theirs does.

I won't use all the power when I ride my track, but when I ride high altitude sand dunes in Utah I will need it. I'm coming off a CR500AF(for sale). I need more of an all around bike.

The crf has a lot of power as it is. You really shouldn't need more hp, just a powerband that fits your riding style better. I've been looking for a new exhaust for my bike and ended up ordering one from Thunder Alley.

bigcr what yr is your 500af and how much are you selling it for? I agree w/ the rest of these guys you can spend anywhere between 350 and 750 for a pipe that will give you MARGINALLY better results. I would spend the money only if you somehow trash the stocker. I had to buy a new exhaust for my 02'(fmf Titanium4) and didn't notice any gain. It just was faster reving. And the biggest down fall is it made it WAY louder.

I know several that can and do. come to DW03 and meet a few. More HP on the dyno is not always what you are trying to accomplish with the addition of an exhaust system and BigCR, you may want consider where you need power because some may have a higher peak HP... at 12,000 RPM, is that what you want?. Moving the power to an RPM range that you are more comfortable riding is a better application for the addition. I know I can't use 1/10th of the available power the CRF has but I do use 100% of what it has on the bottom and I beg for more. I don't like riding in the mid range because it is too twitchy, I just want more bottom end. An exhaust system can do that, the trick is finding the one that will suit you best. Dyno numbers to me are fun to look at only after you have formulated your own seat of the pants impressions to see how they compare, but I would never base my decission soley on it.
As for the aftermarket systems costing too much... The Honda MSRP for an OEM header is $161 and the canister is $591 as compared to an after market system that will cost you about $475 for a header adn can... go figure.

My brother has a CRF450 and he bought the Big Gun pipe. I dont usually buy into the hype of after market pipes unless I crunch one but I have to say the Big Gun works well. I rode while stock and after the mod and I know Id do the same thing if I bought the CRF. Since you dont live in Cali. you dont have the noise restrictions but to be honest, I cant tell that much difference in sound level between stock and the new pipe and silencer.
Thats my $0.02 worth

A few DRN regulars have these pipes on various bikes. Everybody that has them or has ridden the bike with them say the same thing. WOW!
