I work at a yamaha dealer, and we finally got our comparison books today for the salesmen, they had a claimed weight of 245 for the wr450, and claimed it to be 2 pounds lighter than a ktm 450 exc, at 247. It also said that the wr had a full titanium exhaust including header, but i am yet to see a bike to know for sure.

Thanks. I was getting a little worried when they were saying 260.

sounds great

My KTM 400 ex/c is 257 lbs not 247.... sorry but from the euro guys who have seen and weighed the early release WR450's over there they are claiming wet weight with no gas of over 260 pounds. apparently it is not a light bike...

I dont want to sound mean but why would anyone even think Yamahas published weight is even close? Go to a real scale that the whole bike can fit on with a full tank of gas, then lets compare numbers. Real world the way we ride them. My 450 hasnt showed up yet but when it does, it will go to the scale. I think the bike will be about 265 with gas, same as an XR 400 for a compro. Even at that it will be a blast!

Should know in a couple weeks. Talked to the dealer tonite and was told that they are on their way. Calif. to Chicago then on to Ohio.

Everybody realizes that the manufacturer's published weights are always wrong, but it is certainly interesting and sometimes a baseline (if you know to add the usual 10-15 pounds). Incidently I also wasn't claiming that the KTM weighed 247, just that the seller's guide said it did. Just though it would be some good info since Yamaha previously hadn't published a weight. It will certainly be interesting to see where the bike ends up when people start to get them, hopefully they will be competitive in weight.

There is supposed to be one at the Chicago Cycle show Feb. 7th to the 9th. Hope to get (& see) all the specs. there.

We weighed a WR426 and a WR450 back to back on the same scale. The 450 was only 8-10 lbs lighter. Not a big difference unless you consider the magic button and all of its related parts. I can't speak for anyone else but my '02 WR426 is the easiest starting four stroke I've ever had.

I assume this is a typo and you meant "heavier".

NO, THE 450 WAS, IN FACT, LIGHTER.

In a Swedish magazin test the Yamaha Wr45f weight 226kg (about 280lbs I think) whit full tank.
And KTM 450EXC 220Kg about 267lbs with full tank.
And the Yamah Wr 450 was the best bike in it's class, (second over all)

Gerhard, your magazine has a misprint, 226 kg ( nearly 500 pounds )
is the weight of street bikes like VFR800, Triumph 955's etc.

cheers, Craig
