Travis Pastrana out for another 2 months

This is straight from Racerxill.com.. Looks like Suzuki will be out another racer again this year. Man Travis, why cant he just get his act together!

Travis Pastrana is injured again

Racer X just received the unfortunate and truly hard-to-believe news that Team SoBe Suzuki's star-crossed rider Travis Pastrana will miss the next two months (at least) after injuring his shoulder in a training accident. In what has to be the most bizarre injury in recent memory, Travis dislocated his shoulder in a swimming pool when he made the turn doing laps and slammed his arm down on the concrete ledge of the pool.

"He might do the last couple of supercross races, but he's not sure," said his mother, Debbie. "To tell you the truth, his knee was so bad - it's just a mess - that we weren't sure he was going to be able to race anymore anyway."

Even by Travis standards, this injury is bizarre. It ranks up/down there with Jeremy McGrath cutting his heel on a piece of broken glass at Pepe's Restaurant back in August of 1996, or Mike Craig twisting his knee on a boot lying on the floor of his hotel room before the 1994 Gainesville National, or even Bob Hannah breaking his leg on the rocks at Lake Havasu while water-skiing behind a boat driven by Marty Tripes.

We will have more on this unfortunate turn of events for Travis Pastrana....

ahh crap!

Man, i was hoping travis would say injury free this season

I'm really gonna miss him in daytona

Posted by: chowder6---------------------

he shouldn't of been freestyling while under a suzuki race contract last yr...his bad knee can very well end his mx/sx career early...instead of reaping in money over the next 8-10 yrs, we might not even remember him in 5 yrs...

Posted by: roosteater---------------------

Aaaah....just one more disappointment when it comes to Pastrana. Obviously this was just a freak accident, but it's disappointing all the same.

Posted by: jboomer---------------------

What kind of injury would that be to keep him out that long? CR rode with a dislocated shoulder last season outdoors. Maybe a torn rotator cuff or something?

Posted by: 380EXCman---------------------

I have a couple theories on this. I think alot of guys try and lengthen their career by sitting out races for injuries that they would have raced with or at the least missed a few rounds 5 or more years ago.

But mostly I think he is damaged goods. He is a great kid and its too bad. Possibly one of the best ever. But so was Old Yeller..........

where's the "shaking head in disgust" emoticon?

Posted by: Patman---------------------

That's a shame, I really hoped he finally got his act together and was going to make a run at it. Good thing he has that EVS knee brace sponsorship huh? :silly:

Posted by: ochster---------------------

He is to brittle, bring on HAMMY!

Posted by: Jeepboy---------------------

Was he wearing an EVS knee brace?

I imagine only a few people actually KNOW if he wears them or just is sponsored by them

On TransWorld Mx's web site, DeCoster said that the "out for 2 month" comment came from his mother, and that they won't know what's wrong or how long he'll be out until he see's a specialist. (or something like that). He should stay away from the casino's when he turns 21, with luck like he has. Get well TP.

Posted by: BEEF706---------------------

Sorry to hear he's out, man the kid has no luck at all, can't even blame this one on poor choices

Posted by: MX-727---------------------

Which swimming class did you think he should be in?

I also don't understand the connection between FMX, his knee and swimming, although I can see that there may be a connection between freestyle and a swimming injury.

You guys did read the press release, right?

Posted by: BigR---------------------

Sounds like TP and Robbie Reynard have a lot in common - very fast and can't stay healthy for an entire season. Reynard said he has only been healthy for one entire season. How many has TP been healthy for? 250 vs 125?

Posted by: Chili---------------------

Anyone else get the impression Decoster has had about enough of dealing with the Pastrana family? I though his replies to swap were full of frustration. I like TP but it seems like there is some issues there when the company that pays your salary is finding out your done for 2 months from an internet rumour.

Here is the latest from Suzuki
from racerx

Pastrana out indefinitely

BREA, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2003) – American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) today announced that Team SoBe Suzuki factory rider Travis Pastrana will not compete in upcoming rounds of the 2003 AMA U.S. Supercross Series.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, Pastrana injured his shoulder while swimming laps in a pool. Said Pastrana, "The last few weeks I have been limited in my training due to my knee injury. While swimming, I re-injured my left shoulder. This made me realize that I would not be able to run in front with the other top racers. Yesterday, I made the final decision to pull out with a renewed focus on rehabilitating my body and mind to get 110 percent healthy. So, when I come back I will be able to run in front and win races."

According to Mel Harris, vice president of ASMC’s motorcycle/ATV division, Suzuki stands behind Pastrana and respects his decision. "Of course we’re disappointed and dismayed for Travis," said Harris. "He’s a tremendously gifted rider who’s just had a string of bad luck. We at Suzuki certainly encourage Travis to take care of himself and recover fully so that when he returns to racing, he’ll come back 100 percent."

Very frustrating for Roger I'm sure

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

I'm sure it's frustrating for Travis as well.
Why am I awake?

Posted by: Patman---------------------

He might stand a better chance of staying in one piece if he would concentrate on SX/MX and quite trying to do stupid people tricks. I wouldn't blame Roger for being upset with Travis, his job is to run the SX/MX team not the free style recovery ward. I really, really like Travis as a rider and representative of our sport but he's GOT to figure out soon that he can't do it all.

He only wears the EVS shin/knee gaurd, no braces. The one guy that really needs some protection, I don't get it, wear something for Gods sake :silly:.

Posted by: bclapham---------------------

the problem travis has is his over enthusiasm. Its a common problem in soccer, players get injured and try to come back too quick, only to make matters worse....what to do to get around this now is play them in the reserves for several games, away from the big crowds so they dont get too excited!

Unfortunately for travis, MX isnt a team sport- he cant hide behind the rest of the team, he wants to win every race (who can blame him for that) but maybe he needs to look at the whole picture and concentrate on being healthy, finishing some races and then going for the wins. He always wants to run before he can walk.

Get well soon travis!

Ummm. . . see sig line.

Posted by: Dougie---------------------

Are they sure he wasn't doing back flips on his bike into the pool? Swimming? Come on. If that is true, TP has got to be cursed. I was looking forward to watching and rooting for him this year. Hope he can get a couple in, otherwise, wait for the Motocross season.

Posted by: marcusgunby---------------------

Did you notice how Rc avoided being taken out by ron ron? if that was TP he would be in many bits-do you know the nursary rhyme-humpty dumpty??thats travis that is.

I wasn't gonna go there

Posted by: The Honda Pilot---------------------

IMO suzuki needs to get RID OF TRAVIS....can anyone say dead weight. The kid is always hurt...and his focus isnt just on MX...he is young and is doing more than he should when he is getting payed to do his job that he isnt completing.

Posted by: robrm250---------------------

Suzuki is crying all the way to the bank ,they didn't care if he was sx or doing back flips. He sold way more RM's from the extreme jumping than he did supercrossing it.The public did'nt hardly know who he was when he was racing 125's, ask most kids who Bubba Stewart is and then ask them who is Tommy Clowers,Mike Metzgar, see who the masses know the most.

Posted by: marcusgunby---------------------

True but does FMX sell bikes-i dont think it does.

Posted by: gasgasman---------------------

If he got hurt swimming, I'd hate so see what would happen if he was racing.
