Hi i have a 2002 rm85 and am goin to get a new bike soon. I mostly ride trails and do hare scrambles. I do motox every once and a while. I am 15 years old and am 5'1" amd weigh 125 pounds.
Thanks Kevin

now you're on the right track. if you're ready to move frum an RM85 i'm guessing that you are pretty fast, confident, and competent. this is a good thing. a fast, confident guy at 5'1" has a lot more options available than a begginer.
basically, for you, this issue is fit. you can probably handle any amount of power, but getting it in a package that fits is tricky. as i mentioned in response to your other post, there are several things that can be done to shorten a bike - suspension, seat foam, (i guess thats about it...).
my advice is to check out as many bikes as possible and find a few that fit or come close. talk to some mechanics and ask about fitting a bike to you. and decide how firmly planted you must be to feel safe. if you can safely tippy toe, a lot more options will open for you.
here are some bikes to look at (this is not an exhaustive list): KDX's, KTM 125 or 200 EXC/MXC, YZF/WR250. . .in stock form i'm certian that these bikes will be too tall but they can all be lowered and you can change bars and triple clamp for a more compact cockpit.
hope this helps.

If you can wait for a few months the CRF250 will be out. That will probaly be a little too tall in stock form too. There will be two different models of the CRF250, the "R" model (motox) and the "X" model (off-road). However they will both have the same engine.
Hey, by the way, maybe you can help me out. You said you had a RM85 and did mostly trails and harescrambles. I am getting a CR80 pretty soon, but I want to do trails with it and don't know if that would be the right bike. Any advice you can give me about that would be great!

I have an FMF fatty and power core 2 shorty silencer on it. I think it does pretty well in the trails. You will probually wanna get bark busters. I think the cr80 will be fine too. I think the suspension is good for trails too because it has a pretty smooth ride and i ride on tight trails with rocks and vines and suff like that all over.

What's a bark buster? And would a FMFQ work with the fatty?

kstarr look hard at the KTM200 it might be just perfect for what you want. The KDX wouldn't be bad but I think it's will need more work if you are aggressive and/or MX.
RR53 why not look at the CRF150 for a killer trail rig with gobs of potential?

A bark buster is a guard that attaches to your handlebars and it protecks ur levers and hands.

If your into tight, snotty, nasty east coast trails with a little MX then the EXC is a great choice if you ride more two track open type stuff and more MX then the MXC would be better. Basically it's wide ratio trans. or close ratio trans.

I ride in some single track stuff but i mostly like to ride double track. So u think the mxc would be good? What about the kdx 200 is that a good trails bike? I found a lowering kit for that because im only 5'1".

The KDX is a great trail bike but that's it's job, asking it to be a MX'er is pushing it's comfort zone a lot. If your going to go to the MX track and be serious you'll want the KTM or a modd'ed KDX. If you Want a close ratio transmission like you would use on a track or pretty open HS type riding them the MXC is a good choice. If on the other hand you want to do it all then the EXC is going to be VERY hard to beat as a do it all bike. Suspension lowering is a specialized thing, even more so than suspension modification to existing travel so pick your tuner carefully. MX-Tech has a long history of making bikes really work for those that are short of inseam like Mr. Rich Rohrich that you'll see around here. As a matter of fact he appears in Eric Gorr's new book as an example of what can be done.
