New YZ426 questions

The dealer where i live has a leftover 2002 YZ426 that he would let go for 5195. I will also get some gear, and o-ring chain, and a service manual with it if i decide to buy it. Is this a fair price, or should I offer him a little less?

Also, i am somewhat unfamiliar with the yz426, does the 2002 model have any problems that need to be addressed? I also know that starting these bikes up to 2002 can be difficult sometimes, but the 2003 model fixed that. Can they be made to start like the '03, or is the starting on the '02 really that big of an issue?

Any help on this would be appreciated. The bike will be mostly for trails, so if there is anything i would want to try to get in the deal to make it a little more trail worthy bike let me know.

Thanks

Michael

the best info u could get about this bike is from www.thumpertalk.com . im pretty sure all this model needs is the carb sorted out. possibly the bk mod and rejetting. there is also something over there about putting the 03 cam on the 02.

That is a pretty good price if it is "out the door". Watch out for extra crap they might throw on. I just picked up a 2002 Wr426 and I love it. It starts really easy and the bike as as much power as you could ever want. You won't be unhappy with it...

make an offer...like $4800 or so. 5200 is a fair price, but the dealere might come off of that a few hundred.

for an MX bike, the YZF 400/426/450's make great woods bikes (if you are a bit agressive). the 426 is a bit heavier than the new 450's, but from what i hear, far less fragile.

well tuned and properly jetted, any 4 stroke will easily start.
