Hey guys we're putting together a ride for Manchester,SC on Sat.(2/1). Ocechap, Herkeng41, Honda Pilot, Bruce, KxBeastrider ya'll interested? I know Stumpy and Ivan went last weekend, but all of ya'll that went last weekend are welcome to hang w/us. Let me know.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

Sorry, wrong weekend for it.  They are having the Sumter Enduro that weekend and will be using both the MX track area and the trails.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

If memory serves me Linus called and was told that the trails would only be closed on Sunday.

Posted by: ocechap---------------------

So is Sat. a go or no? Where is Manchester anyway?

I-77 South
Southeast of Columbia, take 378 east
Go 27 miles
Turn right on 261 (there is a light there)
Go 4 miles to town of Wedgefield (don't blink)
Go another 5-8 miles, shooting range is kind of hidden off on the left, shortly after the crest of a hill.  This is where you get the permit to ride.  I think it is $5 per day or $25 per year.
Go another 2-3 miles and bear right on Rimini Road.
Track is on left about 3/4 mile down Rimini Road.

All trails start and end at the track.  If we work this out, we'll find a decent place to spend the night nearby.

I'll verify that it'll be open on Saturday and post back here. :thumb:

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Yeah please let us know Bscottr. We've got a back-up if all else fails, but I'd rather head out to Manchester.

Posted by: Mack Reed---------------------

I'll be there with bscottr and his bunch.

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

Mack,
Is David coming? I'm trying to get everyone rounded up for commitments. I was informed this evening that I had a prior engagement unbeknownst to me. (Serving pop corn at a basketball game.) However, I’m working that now.
Hopefully Mark, David, Barrett and Stump will make it. I can't remember if Ivan said he is on call next weekend. Gomer I think has soccer tourneys.

Know anyone looking for a '99 KX250? Barrett wants to sell/trade his for a 125. Did David sell his yet?

Posted by: truespode---------------------

I'm on call so no riding. I'm just gonna stay at the house and chip some wood and do some bike maintenance as long as I don't get a page that something is wrong.

Ivan

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

A mile or two before the target range (on the left), there is a gravel road on the right with a sign for Manchester State Forest HQ or Ranger's Station or ???

Anyway, follow that gravel road about a mile to a "house" that has a drop box and envelopes where you can pay your $5 and keep the stub for when/if the ranger comes down to check.

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

I just got off the phone with the Manchester office, the lady there says the trails will be open on Saturday. Now if I can just get this other deal taken care of (pop corn :flame: ) I'll be riding.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

You guys have fun (sniff, sniff)!

Bryan: I found that going stiffer 4 clicks on the compression for the front and softer 4 clicks on the compression for the rear made my bike handle better at Manchester. They groomed the trails so it was softer, deeper sand than it usually is.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Alright we're back in buisness. Bscottr,Mack Reed ya'll interested in meeting up some where at the track? Ocechap I guess we got Plan A back in order. I'll drop ya an email. Anymore interested? Honda Pilot, Bruce, Beastrider, Herkeng41?
(thanks for the info Gomer, wish you could make it. :whiner: whoop some @#$ at the tornament)

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

For all interested for meeting purposes I ride a CRF #111 and will be accompanied by a fella on an 02'XR650R, and my fiance on a grey/red atv.

Posted by: Mack Reed---------------------

bscottr
David is going to be there with his farther & son. He is going to keep both his bikes now. we are goin to try to be there early.

Posted by: JAMESGANG---------------------

TO ALL INVOLVED THERE IS 3 TO 5 BIKES COMING MAYBE MORE WE'LL SEE YA THERE

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

This is looking good. :thumb: Mack, how early?

Weather is looking good (mid 60s), rain on and off for the next couple of days which will be great for the trails.

So far it's me, Stumpy, possibly Mark, maybe Barrett and I still need to talk to Davidco. Most likely everyone is in.

Jamesgang sounds good!

Bikes to look for: KX250 (#626, me), YZ125 (no #, Davidco), KX250 (#22, Barrett), WR400 (#418, Stumpy), KTM 250MXC (#248, Mark), KX250 (#?, Mack), YZ250 (#?, David).

Trucks: GMC 1500 (blue) w/open trailer, Dodge Dekota (blue) w/Black enclosed trailer. Mack what will you guys be driving? Others?

Gomer, there is a moratorium on soccer this weekend…..only riding! Ivan, Manchester has pager coverage. You guys need to make this one. :thumb:

I look forward to meeting you guys.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Bscottr we'll be driving a blue and tan chevy tahoe w/ a black enclosed trailer. Bikes will be as stated above. What do ya'll say we meet at the mx track around 12ish?

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

Bryan,
I'm not sure if you've ever been there, but the parking area is right at the entrance to the trails and track. If you make it to the parking area (instead of parking along the driveway), we'll be within 50 yards of each other.

I hope to have a few loops in by noon as I'm not out of the woods yet on this 3 p.m. commitment.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Parking lot works to Scott  Your right I haven't been there yet. Hope you can get out of the popcorn, I'd like to get in a couple of loops w/ya'll. Although I wouldn't want you in trouble w/ the wife either.......could end up bad I'll see if we can get there any earlier, I'm not sure though as its a decent hike for us to Manchester.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

OK, if you guys are going to keep rubbing it in that you're riding this weekend and I'm not, I'll just have to close this thread down! :flame:

(and you KNOW it ain't nuthin fer me to close a man's thread!)

Y'all have fun.  There is a chance that, if their teams gets eliminated early, that we might ride at Turkey Creek on the way home Sunday.  I doubt it, though, they have been playing really well, lately.

Posted by: Mack Reed---------------------

bscottr
The Jamesgange is david and his family. (David's # 52) (Josh #267) and Dave's dad (walter#706) all on yamahas. I will be #8on the kawie.
We hope to be there by 8 or 9ish. I will be driving the red ram with the black inclosed trailer. Looking forward to seeing all.

Gomer you need to come play. You and me need to make some new movies. (we will have to climb the pine trees. no hills to jump down there. lol )

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

Mack/David,
Sounds good. All on Yamahas? Sea of blue again. I'm going to talk to everyone today to our arrival time pinned down.

Posted by: ocechap---------------------

Looks like I'll be there White Expedition with a KX 500 with no numbers. Big fat boy riding it. LOL, er trying to ride it, or possibly it riding me. Just depends!
Bryan, can we get a convoy going down. I will be ready to leave anytime and I can just meet you at the Carowinds exit 90 (I-77 , SC) whenever you want. Anybody else too!

We'll set up a time for the place ocechap wants to meet at (ext.90 on 77)

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

Mack, I'd love to come but there will be too many Dave's there. Last count had them at 4+!

No, seriously, Ricky has a soccer tournament in Augusta all weekend. Somebody bring a camera and get some pictures that we can post at the post offic, er, I mean here on DRN.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Alright guys just got done talking to Dave. Looks like we can meet up at Ext.90 on 77 at 9am. It will take approx. an hr. to get there from that point. I would say we'd get there sooner, but I'll have a hard enough time getting my fiance up that early as it is How's that work for you guys? Ocechap, Mack, Jamesgang? Just let me know guys.

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

Bryan,
I just hung up with Mack, he's leaving early. Prolly get to manchester around 8ish or so. No big deal, get there when you can. :thumb:

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Sounds good Scott. Geez just got done reading the ride report. Sounds like ya'll had a very eventfull weekend. I'm gonna have to trade off laps w/ya'll and riding some laps w/ my fiance as well,(four wheelers just dont go as fast as my CRF ) We should get there around 10.

Most fun I've had on a bike (and off) in a while. Hopefully we can have another this weekend. Wish the Gome and Ivan could make it again. MAN THAT WAS FUN! Sorry flashbacks.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

I'm gonna try to talk my future mother inlaw into letting me borrow the digital camera to take some pics so we can post them this weekend. Yea I wish they could make it out too. We had a blast w/ Gomer at TNT.

Yup....never seen anyone with that much meat in thier mouth, 'cept Linda whatshername, starts with a L?

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Guys I've been leaving out an obvious question I should ask........are the trails wide enough for atv's? My fiance wants to come, but I guess can't if the trails aren't wide enough. Need to know asap. Thanks.

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

Yes...but they only allow ATVs on the trails from 6 to 6. That's p.m. to a.m. :thumb:

j/k

Bring her on.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Good deal thanks for the hasty reply Scott see ya'll there.

Posted by: Mack Reed---------------------

Flynbryan
Like Scott said, I hpoe to be there by 9. If anything changes I will let you know.
I will bring my digital camera as well. we should have good fun

Posted by: MadMark---------------------

Hey guys,
Sound like a plan. I'll see how the schedule goes if I'll meet you at #90 or down there. I've been dying to try this place and it should be good with the rain. I'll be in a white F-150, YZ250 #439 with a big tank. Where at @ exit 90?

Mark

Posted by: ocechap---------------------

Mark and Bryan, probably the easiest thing to do is exit at 90 and then go straight through the light and park in the KFC parking lot. It's pretty decent sized and probably won't be too busy at that time.

Bryan, I'll call you on the cell in the morning to let you know if I'm going to meet you guys down the road further.

Jim

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

sounds good ocechap see ya there. 9am.

Posted by: goc305---------------------

so is the staging area open tomorrow, or is it just the trails that will be closed for sunday?

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

Found out today that all trails will be open tomorrow. You'll be upon the enduro riders/racers if you ride the 8 mile trail.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Thanks for the good time guys, it was a blast. Of course the rest of the DRN crew blew us away, but ocechap, mad mark, and myself had a great time going at a BLISTERING pace for ourselves......ok, we were just staying alive It was a good time though and thanks to all that came. Ocechap, Mark we need to hook up again definately, and of course anyone that would like to join is always welcome.

Posted by: ocechap---------------------

Guys, I had a blast. It was great meeting some of you guys, too bad I couldn't hang with you but a rookies gotta start somewhere I guess. MadMark and FlynBryan helped me with my handlebars so I don't feel like I'm standing on my head when I stand up now. Man what a difference that made. I might actually keep the KX 500 now. I guess that is part of the fun, learning and helping rookies out. I hope I can return the favor sometime! The sand is definitely a different animal and my shoulders and back feel somewhat different this morning, figure that! One thing is for sure, bark busters will be ordered by the end of the day. Geez, all I could think was "watch that tree, watch that tree, watch that tree!" Oh yeah and, "where did my front end go" Every turn it seemed to have a good chance of disappearing. LOL. I kinda sorta figured it out a little near the end. I'm gonna post something on the suspension about setup, but do you guys change your compression for the soft sand like that? It did make for some soft landings that I took though.

Thanks for the fun!

Posted by: MadMark---------------------

Yeah guys I had a blast. I hope Dave's shoulder is OK. I feel a little sore today. I went mountain biking to try to loosen up a bit. That sand is fun! Hope we can do it again soon. I'll get my clutch in this week. Takl to you soon.
Mark

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

LOL….those 2 strokes are a lot of fun Bryan! I like the signature line. :thumb:

DRNers making the show:

Flynbryan
Dave (screen name?)
Ocechap
MadMark
Mack Reed
The James Gang (Including David, Josh and Walter)
Stumpy
Mark S. (screen name?)
and me.

I probably shouldn’t have been riding as bad as I felt and unfortunately I couldn’t hang with you guys very long. My concentration was so bad all I could do was foot drag through all the corners, hoping not to hit the trees. I felt so bad that I didn’t even make the Basketball games that afternoon.

The way it worked out was cool, having nearly all of Manchester to ourselves. The biggest kick for me was when you asked me about Mark. “Is he fast?” Yep, he’s fast! Bryan was telling me he thought he was keeping Mark at bay for a couple of miles. After a while Mark decided it was time to go and passed Bryan in some fairly tight stuff on the back wheel.

David, Mack and Josh are also very fast. :scream:

We need to do this again and hopefully I’ll be able to ride some. Ivan and Gomer, we need to schedule another ride soon, these guys are a great group.

It was great meeting and riding with you guys.

BTW: If we ever get into a "throwdown" I want Ocechap on my side!

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

No doubt I will do all my trash talking w/Jim beside me, LOL. Although a very nice fellow. Glad you liked my sig. Scott. It took a great deal of pride swallowing to post that, but you busted me....... Mack told me you weren't felling well and retired early.......and I was just felling good about being able to keep up w/you. That crew is no doubt fast, after this weekend I realized I'm no where near as good a shape as I thought I was. We(Ocechap, Madmark and myself) had no prob. being the sweepers though. Dave had a blast as well even though his ride was cut short(He's just decided to start listening to that voice of reason in his head a little more often now is all). No doubt we'll all have to get together again soon. Maybe I'll be in a little better shape to hang w/ ya'll by then. Thanks again to all. It truely is worth every penny of the subscription for this place. Its really cool all the friends you meet here.

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

Bryan,
Did that 650 take Dave for a ride through the trees?

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

Yea it took him for a trip. The front end pushed out in the corner and he just couldn't lean his shoulder far enough outta the way of danger. It was a soft wood, but apparently not soft enough He's feeling better now though.

Posted by: bscottr---------------------

Quote:

I never could tell much difference between a pine and oak tree when striking them at speed.

Glad he's doing OK. :thumb:

Posted by: ocechap---------------------

Well the way I figured I could keep up with you guys was put some bark busters on the bike and a steel front fender and just go through the trees instead of trying to do all that dicing between them with that big fat 500, and my skinny little butt, lol! Not so sure that will work but I'll probably end up doing it whether I want to or not if I try to keep up with you guys!

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

Jim...I ended up adding compression damping to the front and softening the rear to handle better out there, but it really depends on what the bike is doing.

Stumpy...did you get yours handling better? What did you do?

Bryan...did you get an address where we can send our condolences to the tree? (If I had a choice between running into a tree or Dave, I think I take the tree...at least I know it wouldn't chase me down afterwards)

Scott...using that "I feel icky" excuse, again? Is Mark as fast as Mack? If so, I'll race him on two conditions: 1, I get a 10 minute head start, and 2, I get to work on his bike before the race. :o

So...where are the pictures? Did y'all ride the track at all? Anybody ride the enduro Sunday?

Posted by: Mack Reed---------------------

Bryan
Was that a 650? I thought it was a 400. No wounder that thing was soo hard to pick up. lol Hope Dave gets better soon. We need to do it again. I had a great time.

Don't know, I only saw them when they stopped to regroup (seemed like they were well rested when we got there), after they crashed (only saw that once), and in the pits.

1. You better hope it's a very short trail to the finish.
2. Equalizer! :thumb:

Bryan couldn't get the springs on his CRF to compress as much as yours. Go figure.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

No, no street address for the tree Gomer, but if you ride that trail again its easy enough to see. Its the one leaned over holding its side Dave is a pretty impressive fellow. I would have been whining like a girl and rolling around in the sand. :whiner: Its a good thing Jim was there, cause I have yet to get that big red beast to start for me on a consistent basis. Yes Mack, that is indeed a 650(289lbs. of big red beast)! I don't know how he does it. It feels like a desert sled and Jim I give you lots of credit as well. That was definately fun. Even though we didn't see ya'll after about 4-5 corners it was still a good time.

Posted by: ocechap---------------------

4 or 5 turns. Just to let you know, by the time I let out the clutch and looked where I was going you fellas were gone. Later in the day Mark and Bryan were waiting for me at different spots. By the time I got there they had their helmets and shirts off tanning trying to get an early start on the summer!!!

LOL
