Hi everyone, I'm having some problems getting one of my snomobiles started. It's a 95 (I think..either that or a 94) Polaris Indy 500. About 2 years ago it was put behind my dads house and it's sat there since then. It has been started once (about a year ago) since then. My dad had drained the gas tank, put some oil in the cylinders, and filled the oil injection tank, plus disconected the battery. So today I pull the plugs out and pull it over a few times to clear the cylinders out. I put new plugs in and a new battery along with 2 gallons of gas. When I pull it over for the first time I can hear the computer turn on and set everything up. About 3 minutes later I begin pulling away on the cord. I couldn't get the thing to even try to run. It's almost like it's not getting any spark (it is). The plugs are getting wet with the gas/oil so I know it's getting fuel. It has good compression. I can't figure it out. It used to fire up on the 3rd or 4th pull (after the inital copmuter pull). Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

Ok, I got it running (some carb cleaner in the cylinder worked). I also found out it's a 93. But I have a new problem, it won't move. Well it moves a little. If I rev it up, it'll get to about 4,000 rpm, then it wan't to die. The clutch starts to engage at around 3500rpm. With the track off the ground it still does the same thing. So I'm guessing that one of the jackshaft bearings is frozen. What else could cause it to die out like that? Thanks

If it is carburated, you may need to clean out the carbs. I have an old sled, 1980 Kawasaki440, and I had the same problem a few years ago. Mine did sit a lot longer than 2 years though (probably about 10). After doing all the normal maintainance, it would start, but would bog down under load. It has dual carbs, and I took each one apart and let all the parts soak over night in cleaner. When I put it back together, and got the carbs adjusted properly, it ran great. I had it out today, and now I am paying for it.....they didn't believe in suspension on snowmobiles back in 1980 :whiner:

It is either the carbs or the plugs. I would suspect the plugs, buy new ones and try it again. Is it bogging out on RPM's or throttle opening?

Also, take the belt off and you should be able to turn the jackshaft a little bit by hand.

Well the jack shaft isn't frozen, and the clutch works good. Even with the blet off, the motor only revs so high. I put a little injector cleaner (rember it's EFI), in the tank. It runs a little bit better now..but I can't keep it running for more than 30 seconds at a time. So I think I found the problem, dirty injectors.
