Well,
It's almost that time again. This was the one and only "real" race I rode in last year. All the rest were family enduros... Fun, but not the same. I'll definitely be at the Old Crow again this year. It's only nine miles from my house.
Who else is planning on going?
Posted by: LocoCD---------------------
My whole crew will be riding. I'm finally comfortable enough on my new bike to give it a try. See you there!
Posted by: ScottYZ250---------------------
Loco,
You know my bike, look for #515
Posted by: Lew---------------------
We will be there.. I hope there is less poison oak than at Hollister. I am still one big itchy rash from my arm pits to my knees, and EVERYTHING in between
:whiner:

I've never encountered poison oak at Carnegie... and I'm very allergic. You should be fine. Should rain next week, that'll ensure for some nice dirt come race day!

Hi, Scott!
I heard from somebody that the new land will be open on this weekend in Carnegie. Is that true?
Mini
Posted by: ScottYZ250---------------------
Sorry, but not true. I was just talking with employees at Carnegie about a week ago, and they said they have no idea when it'll open. I know there is a two year environmental study that must be completed before the new land will open. That study does not finish till end of '03/early '04. I was told the earliest, best case scenario would be late spring of '04, and probably later even than that.
It would be neat if they could at least use the new land for the harescramble, but unfortunately, I haven't heard that. Who told you this month?
Posted by: Garyb---------------------
Whats the terrain like there?
Posted by: FireLily---------------------
Thanks for the info, Scott!
Just before I read your post about the new land not being open for a while, Buddy called the ranger to check. They told him the same story as yours. Well, we just have to be patient, I guess.
By the way, there will be GFI MX event in Carnegie on this weekend, if anybody is interested in racing.

go to www.skipsatcarnegie.com and go to photo gallery, there is pictures of the terrain there...
Lots of rolling hills, it's mostly hill climbs and rocky single track with some jeep trails too. Last year it was a loop about 8.5 miles long.

Hi Scott, when is the Race? Which weekend?
Posted by: FireLily---------------------
Natalie, the race is on Sunday, March 2.
Buddy is thinking to ride it.

Natalie,
This would be a good taste of a real harescramble for you. Just ride it like trail riding at Carnegie. You already know the trails. Just ride at your speed and have fun...

Scott, do you have a link to an entry form? Is this a D-36 event? Thanks!!
Posted by: Alex04---------------------
I will be ther #185c this is off the subject but why is the face closed I have heard so many stories about it and its closed
Posted by: ScottYZ250---------------------
Natalie, go to district 36's website for info www.ama-d36.org
Alex, if you're refering to the hills in the front of the park, it's an asthetics thing. They are trying to make the park look less destructive to the tree-huggers that drive by.
Posted by: LocoCD---------------------
Last year the club didn't post an entry form until a couple of weeks before the race. I do not think there is one available yet on the D-36 site.
Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------
Is anyone else having trouble accessing the D-36 website? I've been trying for two days on two different computers. I've got the address right.
Posted by: treefinder---------------------
Nope, it's not just you. They're changing servers so I expect it'll be up and down for a few days.
Posted by: ScottYZ250---------------------
Has anyone ever pre-reg'd for this race before? I think last year you had to sign up the day of the race...
Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------
I was able to get onto the D-36 website this week, but there's no info or entry form on this HS. Do the Crow's have a website? I'm trying to talk someone else into going and want to give them something to read.
Posted by: Kawidude---------------------
Do you have to be a D-36 member in order to ride this event? I'm thinking I might like to check it out. It would be nice to try a "real" race instead of the family hare scrambles I'm used to.
Posted by: ScottYZ250---------------------
check in new Old Crow forum
Posted by: ktmzak---------------------
kawidude, yes you do have to become a member of D-36, but you can get a one day card for $10.00. This will allow you to check it out and decide. You can also apply for a card online. check out the website @ www.ama-d36.org

I will be racing in the C-Vets any other vets online?
Posted by: Mudrider---------------------
I will be racing in the vets class. I rode out there on Sat. and the course was dry and hardpacked. They were setting up parts of the course and it looks like it will be close to lasts years. Hopefully they get some rain at the end of the week.

Summary of my day at the Old Crow: The weather was great, the course looked fun, the bike was running fine, and I was a total spode.
I crashed in the first bottleneck, a stupid tipover from target fixating on an obstacle I was already passed. The crash horked my throttle, I broke out the tools, seemingly fixed it, only to crash AGAIN 10 feet later when the throttle stuck WFO. Grrrr. The second crash broke off my barkbuster, and with a wonky throttle and missing a barkbuster I called it a day. Also crushed the mount for my Odo, whee! Total mileage raced: 0.4 miles.
I'm not sorry I went though. I saw Mick in the pits and chatted with him for a bit, and had a funny moment on the start line. I'm sitting there craning my neck to see if I recognize anyone, and a YZ 250 rolls up next to me with DRN fender stickers. Yep, turns out it is ScottYZ250! Was nice to meet another DRN member!
I got sunburned dirt biking in the first week of March in the Northern Hemisphere, so life isn't all that bad!

I thought it was a great day. My family and I arrived at 12:30 Saturday and set up camp. Registered my son and I with no lines, that was a first, and had a relaxful afternoon and evening. Sunday we lined up for the start. My son in the 250 C class and myself Vet C. I got a pretty good start, but MX is not my thing so I was passed by a few on the mx track. Had to wait about 30 secounds at the first bottle neck just after leaving the mx track. Got out on the course and I will say (at least for me) this course tested all of my skills, and some of them to the max. I saw alot of pretty knarly crashes.
Overall - my son went out after the first lap. He went down and broke off his rear brake foot lever (I am real proud he was able to finish out his lap before calling it quits with no rear brake). I logged in a total of 3 laps, not real fast, but my claim to fame here will be I managed to stay on 2 wheels the entire race. Today my triceps and forearms are very sore, but man I had a great time. See ya all in 2 weeks back at Hollister.
