Atlanta SX - Day Activities?

What occurs during the afternoon at the SX event? When the SXGP site indicates "Practice / Qualifying", does that include the 2 heats, semis and LCQ or do those events occur after 7pm (i.e. does the afternoon qualifying only include those local pros, etc. trying to qualify for heats 1 or 2)?
I'm taking my 2 nephews to the race for the first time and I'm trying to figure out if we'll want to be there for the entire afternoon. We will see the big names on the track alot or will they only be out for a few practice sessions? If the latter, do we need pit passes unless we want to watch Jimmy Bob from Macon try to qualify all afternoon long (no offense to you Jimmy Bob - but you're not worth a $40 ticket)?

If you want to see the top riders (RC, Reed, Ferry, DV, Jesseman, Sellards, Bryne, Brown, Langston, etc.) during the day - then get to the stadium by 12:30 for the afternoon practices. The top riders will each have 2 practice sessions between 12:30 and 4:00. After this time, your top riders will not be out again until the 7:00 night show. The afternoon practice is good to watch because there won't be many people in the stadium and you can usually sneak into the front few rows for some up close actions and good photos. During the night show, the place will be packed and you'll be confined to your seats. Pit passes are normally $10 and the pits are usually open for access from 12:30-5:30. At this time, you can go in the pro pits, get autographs and posters from the top riders, see their bikes up close and their semis, etc. The day qualifiers, from 4:00-5:45, will be the privateers trying to get a spot in the night show.

Do you have to pay to get into the practice sessions? any clue. I have tickets to the evening session

Practice session is free...you just show them your race tickets comming into the door.

if you leave the stadium after 530, you may not can get back in without buying a new ticket.. leave before 5.30 and you can get a re-entry pass so you can come back to see the race that nite. that's how it was in san diego,, and when you do come back, make sure you entering the right gate,, they have a special entrance for peoplewho have the re-entry passes. also, take a ball cap as the lights of the stadium are like the sun, also, learn the bike numbers/brand by heart as the all look the same in the pits... happy sx day.

oh, and another thing,, if you can take a trolly into the stadium area, do that, the parking is HELL and will be VERY CROWDED before and after the race, and alot of the exits will be blocked off and you'll be lost in a maze.. so park a few blocks away, and take a trolley into the stadium area...trust me on this one.

me again,, another thing,, go find your seats during the day, so you'll know where to go, and try to get to race an hour early. if you bring a fm/am radio, you can tune into the announcer frequency and hear what they are saying about the race. i saw my first sx in sandiego two weeks ago, and this is the stuff i wish someone had told me.
