The kid wasted his clutch this weekend.. My question is is this clutch worth it?? I will by the whole kit (friction plates, steel plates and springs) for a 2001 KX125.. Any reccomended oil for this set up?? Currently were using Maxima 80wt..
Thanks in advance,
RIck

While the kits are usually much cheaper than OEM, most have not had good luck with them. If you're going the kit direction, I've had better luck with EBC.
The problem that I've had w/ both brands is the friction plates tend to swell causing the clutch to drag when the lever is pulled in. Also, the springs are much stiffer. These springs don't allow the clutch to slip during shifts. This sounds good, but the clutch actually is supposed to act as a buffer between the enging and the drivetrain. This can increase wear on your transmission.
About the only thing that is really good in the kits are the steel drive plates.
If you decide to go w/ either EBC or Barnett, stay away from the Kevlar plates and use half old spring and half new...only if your bike uses an even number of springs and then evenly distributed, of course.
Keep on using the same oil.

Thanks for the advice Los36,
I ordered a Barnett kit today, i will be using the old springs mixed in w/the new ones.. I was told about that trick and now hearing it again, reassures me.. Thank You,
Rick

TOday i installed the new clutch, was a little tight but works.. I have a question, on the stock Kawi cluthc, the first friction plate that gets installed, is gooved.. The Barnett clutch isn't.. My gues is the stocker is grooved for lubrication.. SHould i be concerned??
Thanks,
RIck

Ricky, I use Barnett cluth's, they work good, but one thing your supposed to do before you install the fiber plates is soak them in the oil that your using for at least a few hours, it saturates the fiber and helps reduce the grabby/jerky engagement problem. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner .

Hey thanks for the re-ply Billy, i did soak them for about an hour in Maxima 80wt.. Tommorrowwere gonna go ride so we'll see how the new clutch works.. I think my 250 is gonna need one soon..
Thanks again,
Rick
