anyone ever made a motorcycle carrier out of a cargo style racks not sure but I think there rated at 500lbs and cheap compared to regular motorcycle racks just an ideal any input would be helpful thanks

I saw one but it looked way scary ........ The 2" tubing does not go all the way under the rack to be strong enough to hold the bike with out flexing.
Those carriers will hold 500lbs of LOW weight, the forces applied from the leverage of the height of the bike will tweat the thin metal.....

I built a cargo caddy some time ago and just recenlty added a bike carrier to it. The ones from Northern, JC Whitney, etc are rated at 500 lbs. which should handle the load, but my home job is way overbuilt. Couldn't give you a load rating for it, but I've put 1,000 lbs. (five fat guys) on it as a test with no problems.
I added a bike rail on top of it by using 2.5 in. angle welded together to make a channel. I then bent one end upwards and cut out the center section to hold the front wheel. I roll the bike on from the side and strap it down by the front and rear tires. The straps are set to pull the bike down and into the front tire hoop.
This allows me to transport the bike without compressing the shocks and it rides along behind my Suburban.
It has proven itself to be really convenient and it only cost me about 20 bucks, but take some Valium before you take your bike on the first ride. As the wheels are held fast and the suspension is free to move you'll be shocked at how much bouncing goes on.

I'd love to see a pic of that mingy, if you have any.
