Anything comparable to a WR250F

The 03 has everything I want. 4 stroke, electric start, light weight, adjustable suspension but it's tall. I'm only 5'8" so the 39.2" seat height is a bit intimidating.

Only other bike I've heard of that would be comparable is the 2004 Honda CRF250X but according to the Honda website that won't be available until December 2003. If only the KLX300 had an electric start I'd be all set since it's got the lower seat height at about 36"

I am 5'9 and got a WR250f (2002). As part of the sale I have the shop lower the suspension and shave down the foam under the seat for me.

It's great. The only thing I forgot is to have the kicjstand shortened.

Enjoy.

How much did you have the bike lowered? What's your front and rear travel now? Was it a big additional cost having this work done?

I didn't know you could do that with the seat. How comfortable is it now?

That KTM EXC 250 Racing 4 Stroke looks awesome !

Yamaha will have to make the WR even better.

The new KTM 250EXC 4 stroke has everything you just asked for, even the 36 inch seat height. Only difference is the KTM is a close ratio 6 speed. I just looked a one earlier today on my way home from work. I would bet the KTM has alot more power.

I have heard from my local KTM dealer that his 250 EX/C RFS is ALMOST comparable to a STOCK WR250F power wise. To me, a stock WR is a little lacking in the engine department, so until KTM comes out with their real 250 EX/C RFS, I would go with a WR. But then again KTM's are very good bikes with the juice clutch and all, and I actually have never noticed the seat height on a WR being any higher, harder to get on/off of as my KDX or Gas Gas (both 36"). I think either bike will be a good choice.

There was a good review of the KTM 250RFS in dirt rider or dirtbike last summer. The short of was that it was tricked out with the typical KTM goodies & build quality, but it is not a powerhouse. It is super smooth, and seems to be targeting mellow / newer riders. It almost sounded like a XR250 in the power delivery, vs a 250F.

The guy at the dealership where I saw the KTM said that he rode one and it had moe power than the XR250. I haven't ridden one yet, so I can't compare the bike. I do know that most writers are comparing eveything to their 2stroke 250's, so they always say small bores are mild and/or underpowered. Based upon my experience with my DRZ250 ( 4 valve head and high compression), I think the KTM ( also 4 valve head and high compression ) will have alot more power than the WR250E and I know my DRZ is quicker than a friend's XR250. Another KTM dealer out here has a mx track and they allow test rides at the track, so I think I will make an appointment for a test ride. Another friend has a YZ250F, if I can arrainge for him to bring his bike, then I can do a real side by side comparison. I know the YZ250F has more power ( in stock trim ) than the WR250E, so we can SWAG from there.

Hey DH Dad: "If only the KLX300 had an electric start I'd be all set since it's got the lower seat height at about 36"

The KLX300 is on a different platform then the other bikes mentioned. As a general comparison the 300 would be better off in the XR400/250, XT350/TTR250, DRZ250 arena.

The WR250F is an awesome bike once the FREE mods are done! Best bet is to get a ride on each of them and make your decision based on what "fits" your own need!
Aint it great having all these bikes to choose from
