in a couple of weeks i am getting a 03 YZ125 or RM125, which would be the best for motocross and a bit of FMX, i am coming off a 2000 YZ125 , im 6foot tall and weigh about 75kg.
which would best suit me?

Which ever color you like more! Serious though, they are both pretty good bikes. The RM may have slight advantage for freestyle type stuff, or so I've heard, but the power of the YZ is greater. Your really splitting hairs with the diferences on som of these bikes, ones not really "better." Different people will have different preferences, but they are both good rides. My preference would be the YZ, I'm a YAMAHA man now!

I will say you can't go wrong with either one they both kick a$$! I just had an '02 YZ 125 that bike rocked it's definetly in my book as one of my fav 125's I have owned. I also got to ride quite a bit after owning my YZ a year my friends practically new '01 RM 125. Things that stand out compared to the YZ, The RM is a better shifter it's lighter, more positive and much smoother plus it doesn't resist shifting under a full load like my YZ would do (very anyoying in the middle of a moto) the RM has a much lighter clutch pull it plain kills the YZ here and I had the complete hinson setup in mine. I bet the RM would be even better with that setup I also liked the RM's suspenion more but I prefer my bikes to feel plush and thats what RM's are known for. My YZ's suspenion wasn't bad but it was the typical yammie harshness. Not very bad it won't beat ya up or anything just don't expect it be very plush on smaller hits. I also like how the RM feels its definetly felt lighter and more flickable the handling feels lighter the RM is definetly a carver but I couldn't get it to generate any real head shake down with open straight away in 4th that had bad braking bumps and the very end. The YZ even though it's more stable by design was easier to get it to head shake and on the same straight away in 5th wide open I just plain felt like I was going faster on the RM that sucker REV's big time I loveded it. The YZ does pull a little bit better under a load but I think it's more cause the YZ use's 13/49 and the RM is 12/49 the larger sprocket might account for some of that. I would have to say they are very very on par with each other. About the only other differences is that RM has better ergo's even after the YZ's redesign and the RM is roomier for taller guys in the pegs I'm only 5'5" and I felt more comfortable on it right away. I think the only thing I didn't like about it was the RM has a lame handle bar bend stock, it sweeps back alittle to much and too low but who cares usually replace it anyways. Really thats about the only difference between the two but either way you can't pick a wrong bike between these two.

i was leaning towards the rm because of the roomy cockpit but i have heard some rumors about crank reliabilty, they basicly chew em up very quick and spit them out. is this true?

I know the early RM's use to not be very reliable say in the mid 80's! What kind of maintence you do to a bike and not letting something wear out will greatly impact what kind of reliablity you get out of the bike. Don't be like some of my old dork friends who'd let the top end wearing to the point of siezing then blame the bike for thier lazyness and stupidity then bad mouth it for the rest of thier days. Don't be suprized when you see me on an RM in the another 10 months.
