Have a friend who wants to get into dirt-biking, late 20's, 5'3", about 100lbs. So far she has looked at TTRs, CRFs, and a few others. I told her she might want a YZ 85 because of the broader yamaha powerband and the low weight. She's mainly concerned with weight and seat height. She's ridden dirt bikes before, but it has been a long while.
Anyone have a good recommendation? Maybe something we haven't thought of?

if she is good enough for a two stoke moto bike the kx100 is really sweet

I'll second KX or RM100.

My vote is for the KX100, light weight, plenty of power and since she has ridden before..

Not sure what YZ 85 that would be as they are known for being a pipey 85 with a relatively narrow powerband like the CR.
What kind of riding is she planning on doing with this bike? If she is just going to be plotting around the woods I think the TT-R125L would be an excellent choice, if she's up for some moto the KX100's suggestions seem sound to me.

I'm with Chili on this one. If she's a mellow person and just wants to tool around on trails a bit, the the TTR125L is perfect for that. The CRF seems heavy to me, well it IS heavy. Since she's ridden before, though, I would totally consider a newer (with the power vavle) model RM100/KX100. It's much easier to ride that the pipey YZ85 because the power valve gives ya some additional low end that ya wouldn't otherwise have. I've REALLY enjoyed my KX100 on the Texas terrain of Lake MacKenzie and the Canadian River near Amarillo. I put a 10 oz flywheel weight on for some additional low end and it's now my trail bike. I'm a little shorter, but weigh about the same as your friend.

Thanks everyone for the input. I was thinking the YZ85 would be less pipey based on the YZ125 that I have ridden but I guess it is an altogether different animal. I'll show her the KX/RM 100 and TTR125L, and see which one she likes. I imagine she'll probably want to start out on trails but if she goes riding with me and my buddies she will end up on an MX track sooner or later.
