XR400 Bogging?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Today I noticed that on the top end, when I am hitting the high rev's that my bike bogs down and 'bubbles' which really slows down the bike and its performance. What could be causing this? I rode it in the morning and it was fine, did some light jumping, then went for a trail ride and it just started doing this. Seems like its really rich or something. Anybody have any ideas?

Forgot to mention, the bike is a 2001 and has been uncorked and rejetted. Uni air filter, vortip exhaust, snorkel removed, 160 58 jets (i think...) Anything else....?

Just a quickie to check. I had an XR400 that did the same thing to me all at once. It ended up that one of the vent hoses was getting pinched closed between the rear spring and the swingarm if I remember correctly.

Apparently when I rejetted I didn't get the hoses routed back the same way so they were getting caught occasionally. It didn't happen immediately after the carb removal, it tool awhile for them to work there way into position.

Good luck

Checked the hoses out, all seem to be fine. What else could be causing this? The airfilter is clean and the oil recently changed (about 100km ago) Seemed to happen right after jumping it though...any ideas?

If it's only doing it over rough terrain and on jumps, check the float levels. Minimum drop should be 14.5mm and max drop should be 19mm. Also, push a piece of fuel tubing onto the end of the pilot jet to extend it's reach into the bowl by another 5mm.

Hmm nope it happens even when on pavement. It seemed like it just started after maybe 10 minutes of jumping. Could I have broken something off? Im running out of ideas.

clean the carb. Re adjust the float level.

I agree, remove the carb and reset the float levels.

I took the car apart and cleaned it, check float levels, all seemed fine. But I dont know how I missed it, sure enough a hose was pinched between the spring and the swingarm. I re-routed it and took her for a spin and it rips again. Dont know how I missed that the first time. Thank you guys so much.
