Who all is planning on going?  We may be there, I will know more later this week.  Anyone else planning on attending?

Posted by: TOTALL---------------------

As of right now i'm going.See ya there.

Posted by: VOR 492---------------------

Yes I will be there also.

Posted by: 91KDX---------------------

I might be going, depends on if I get my fork seals replaced in time or not. VOR I noticed your from sycamore, I just moved to Kirkland a year ago, maybe we can go riding sometime!
Benjamin

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

I'm planning on being there, if I can get my sons swingset up on Saturday.

Posted by: WaltCMoto---------------------

Ill be there, and im tryin to drag MrLuckey with me
Ryan, If its one of those wood sets, they take many hours, start now

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

Thanks WaltC, it is a wood set and I have already started getting ready and will be out early, real early.

I'll get it done cuz I want to go to the race, otherwise I'll have to race then leave right away to go finish the playset.

Posted by: karterron---------------------

Wardy or anyone else

Are the start times and classes the same as last year? The info page on the website still has last years dates on it, so I can't tell if that information is this year or last years.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

Updated the page yesterday, not much changing for times, fees, etc. Hope to run a similiar course to last years last one. It seems that riders really liked that one. Don't forget we are adding the ladies class with the 80's in the morning also. Hope we get a little rain, its really dry.

oh by the way, I will be there tommorow eyeing my up that big old tree down below, need a "slow down" bump for the scorers!!! we used last years for fire wood for the play day!

wardy

Posted by: munch---------------------

I think i may head over your way this weekend!
What are the start times?

Thanks
Munch

Posted by: karterron---------------------

Wardy

Looks like you will be getting that much needed rain. Supposed to stop mid day so Sunday should be perfect.

You may want to take a look at the webpage, it still gives last years information. I just checked it again. The main page give the dates for this year but when you click on the Harescrambles link for information you get the page from last year. Or maybe it is my browser, anyone else tried recently?

Posted by: Bob Brooks---------------------

I have a question for Wardy. I haven't run any races yet this year but I noticed on my District card that we have assigned numbers now for Hare Scrambles. Will we be given numbers to stick on our bikes like last year, or are we supposed to show up with numbers already on our bikes like motocross?

Posted by: carnage---------------------

Hey Bob, I see Anne is getting pumped for the race. She should do well. I'm still not sure if it's going to be Sunset or Wardy's yet. If I go to Wardy's I'd have the same question. I have my MX numbers on and have no intention of ripping them off. Don't have a second set of panels either.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

Hey guys, since I was the one that pushed that assigned number deal here is the plan. If you have an assigned number and you DOn't have it on your bike. Patty has made up the ones like we had last season, Lamanated computer priinted numbers. in which are yours if it is your number, meaning that we are planning to let you keep them for racing other races including our future ones.

rain geeez, I said a LITTLE rain not 4-5 inch monsoon, and rain in the forcast for sunday dang it!!

gimmee some advice here guys, I realize HS races run in real crappy weather, however I really don't want to tear the living heck out of the parking lot and trails for an event that could be possibly rescheduled? SO what usually determines this, remember I am a spoiled MX kinda guy.

I will go after that page and see whats up

thanks

wardy

Posted by: Layton---------------------

Wardy,

As you have probably figured out, I've been riding a long time. We use to race no matter what the conditions were like however ------ over the years I have found that when you race in crappy conditions:

1. You destroy the riding area.
2. You destroy the bike.
3. The only person who has fun is the winner.

Do what YOU have to do.

Posted by: munch---------------------

I'm with Layton on this.
Is it really worth tearing up the trails ?
It takes quite a while for them to recover from one muddy race.
But, it is alot of fun and adds some excitment!

Munch

Posted by: karterron---------------------

For me personally, it comes down to my bikes and vehicles. If conditions are so bad that I risk tearing them up I do not race. I have skipped a few events around here due to severe weather. I passed on the first harescramble this year in Cuba for that very reason. My son was VERY disappointed but we do this for fun and I'm just not willing to tear my stuff up in the mud just to race.

Your place has always dried quick. There have been a few times I have been suprised how quickly it dried out while other places have had to close down. You know your place better than anyone, but I would say if conditions improve and you decide to hold the event let everyone know. I'm sure there will be people that skip the drive thinking the place is under water. However, if you risk tearing up the parking lot and the trails, why create the extra work for yourself when you can reschedule?

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

I know all about rescheduling events. The things you have to think about are how much you are going to rut up the place, how much work you want to put into fixing the place after the race, will anyone show up, will the C class rider come back after this race, and will I have to tow people out of the parking lot. The A class guys will come and come back no matter what, we're not to bright

You do have some higher ground down there so it may dry out. But you do have a short loop, which means more laps and more ruts. The best thing about HS is you can change stuff up till the start of the race. Look for the hardest land and run the course on it. Try not to run any new trail, just use all the existing stuff that is packed down by the 4-wheelers. I don't think the off-camber hill climb would be a good idea in the wet, but it would be fun.

The weather forecast changes daily and shows a chance of rain on Sunday. My club waits till the day before and makes a decision, we look at how our parking will be (this is a big one for us) and look at some lower areas that may rut up. Of course we run on private land and make promises, so you are a little differenet, but you still have to fix huge ruts and stuff.

I think by Sunday you will be ok, IMHO. Just see how early morning riders are doing on Saturday and make your decision by noon and let everyone know.

Hope to be there on Sunday.

Posted by: AnneBrooks---------------------

I don't necessarily mind riding if it is a bit muddy/wet, however, I know that a couple other women that I have raced with in the past WILL NOT race if there is any chance of snotty conditions. Do what you have to do, but Bob and I will be there either way.

Posted by: Offroadr---------------------

Ryan, any make up date for the enduro?

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

Offroader, we are looking at Oct 26. We are asking land owners now and will know within a couple of weeks.

Anne, I hope that the other women weren't scared by the HS we put on a couple of years ago at the MX park. I know there were some mudholes that they struggled on.

I'll be there either way, race or no race, I want to ride this weekend.

Posted by: AnneBrooks---------------------

Ryan, yep that is the one I am talking about----I spoke to them tonight and one is already out. That was a monsoon that you had the night before that race, however!! I don't think this will be that much of an issue. Hope to see you Sunday!

Posted by: karterron---------------------

Fox Valley dries really fast also. There were a few times last year I thought it would be a muddy mess due to rain the week before and FVOR was dusty. With the drought the water table should be low which will help also.

However, I can understand Wardy's concern for the parking lot and Ambulance access. We all know Wardy will take care of us on that one, so if the races are on I will be there. If Wardy cancels we will end up at Southfork, Sunset, or Waterman. One way or another we are riding this weekend.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

Its a race as it looks now. The place will dry with one day of nice weather and that looks like Sat. Of course I will update all this on Saturday, and will layout the course accordingly. thanks for all the input! I don't mind the work when I can get to the spots to fix them, its those "cool" spots that are hard to get to!

thanks

wardy

ps leave it to james to find or have in a "safe" place a quotable item......lol.

Posted by: djj---------------------

It's Friday morning and the sun is shining, it will dry out quick, and Sunday will be great, thanks wardy

Posted by: wardy---------------------

we are already dry. the rain did a great job and the riding should be really good. after all that dust and dry spell we had this so far has worked well.

no rain til sunday nite so we are a go and should be a great time.

wardy

Posted by: karterron---------------------

We'll be there bright and early on Sunday. Anyone else going stop by and say hi. Carnage will be in a black F250 and I will have a Chysler minivan with a silver trailer. Carnage and his boy are on KX's and I will have my CR250 and my sons YZ85 so we shouldn't be too hard to find.

Posted by: munch---------------------

Hi,

I'm planning on heading over Sun. Anybody have a description of the terrain,
any motocross track worked into the loop? Looking forward to a good race sounds like the weather is holding !
See you there

Munch

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

I'll see ya there Wardy!

Anne, I'll be there to cheer you on.

I'll try to stop by and say hi to everyone else. I'll be in a black ford cargo van with the #24 KTM 200EXC.

Munch, the terrian is open woods, mostly 4-wheeler wide (somehow it always seems tight thought), with a lot of switchbacks. Sometimes Wardy throws in some of the very easy MX track and there are a couple of hills, nothing hard though, just fun. For Wardy being an MX guy he lays out a very fun HS course.

Posted by: munch---------------------

Thanks Ryan,

It always helps a little to know what to look forward to! I like the idea of a section of mx track, just adds a little something extra. I'll be on the '01 ktm 250 sx #437

See ya there

Posted by: AnneBrooks---------------------

At this point, it doesn't appear we're going to make it after all. My Gas Gas 200 has a shifting problem that we haven't been able to cure. We replaced the shift pawl, it still isn't working right, so I think I'm out of luck for this weekend. Hopefully, I'll make the next race Wardy. In the meantime, if anyone is interested in buying a really pretty yellow Gas Gas cheap, call me!!

Posted by: WaltCMoto---------------------

Ill be there in a red F150 with small red trailer and a KX250 #807
Anne, A pretty yellow bike? Yamaha? I was looking forward to seeing you and Bob again. (although I did pack a lunch this time)
Looking forward to a good day. see yall there
Walt

Posted by: 91KDX---------------------

Sorry but I couldnt make to the hs afterall. The fork seal never came, although I could have rode without it. It was just a lot easier to stay home today. I had baseball games friday, a double header saturday, games on Monday Tuesday Wednesday, Friday and next saturday. I've tried racing on sunday and playing baseball on Monday and it doesn't work to well! Anyway How do you guys do? Did wardy take you on any of the mx track in the back? I would love to hear where the trail went, and the conditions!

Posted by: WaltCMoto---------------------

Good weather conditions, trails had perfect moisture, very little dust, now the parking lot was anouther story- dustbowl.
Wardy laid out a great course. I would guess that most all riders were able to do the hills, callenging but do-able. the trails were a mix of some what fast, and some thru the pine trees that were at a snails pace with a face full of branches. Then Wardy decides to take us down the creek that goes along the road to the mx track, talk about a rocky mess, muddy in parts, basketball size rocks all over the place. yuck. A real charachter builder. Then theres this kid(about 15) on a vintage yamaha trail bike, im guessing a 1980 125cc with 5 or 6 inches of suspention. He finished the race and quite well I might add. I stoped to talk to him afterwards and he wasnt even tired! It was nice to meet up with Woodchuck, Bob and Anne Brooks, carnage, Karterron, FlynRyan, Munch, and VOR. hope I didnt forget anyone. It appered that all of our group went home in 1 piece. Poor, poor Anne, she got beat by a girl. See everybody at the next Round.
Walt

Posted by: WaltCMoto---------------------

Anne, did you and Bob wait till awards came out?

Posted by: AnneBrooks---------------------

no, we left around 5:30 or so and they still were not complete.

Posted by: munch---------------------

Walt,

It was good meeting you this weekend, looked for you after the race but didn't run into to you.
The course was a blast, it had a little of everything to offer, I'll definantly be back next race.
Posting of the results has a little to be desired, but I'm sure that will be straightened out by next race!

Thanks for a Great day of racing Wardy!
Look forward to seeing everyone next time

Munch

Posted by: karterron---------------------

I echo that, course conditions were perfect. Rains held off until after the race, unfortunately everyone was getting soaked waiting on results to be posted. I left at 4:00 because I knew I finished near the bottom of the 40B class. I hit a tree on the first lap with my arm and it started tightning up pretty good by the 3rd lap so I just rode to finish. Part of the SX track was used as well as most of the creekbed going down. That was my personal achilles heel, rest of the course was a mix of tight trails through the pine trees with 3 or 4 easy hillclimbs mixed in. Great track, not too hard for us C riders and technical enough to keep the A riders on their toes. Just a great layout.

It was good to meet all the dirtrider.netters that were there. I was suprised how many showed up. We will be there for the next on in June.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

Hey guys and gals, thanx alot for coming out! The layout was a composite of two of my dedicated trail guys and myself. Steve the big bald guy, is the one that forced me thru some of this stuff, he is always on the "edge". LOL I try to keep him in line a little, if anyone noticed the orange paint on the trees he was the one that was out there the last couple of days walking and painting. Eric the other trail guy, both these guys are team members and friends of course, knows and kinda makes trails also, he was the one that points me in the right direction when it comes to which trail goes where. These guys have way more trail time than me, in fact lately it seems that all I do is set up and tear down !!!.........My main goals with this type of racing is this, layout a good course, then score it and have it done in reasonable time.
we got one part of that really good, the other sucked. I am having a struggle with old way new way type deal in my process. Everyone (riders and my HS people that i know) tells me to "do it the old way" or manually, but last year when the computer people did it right, and the score people did it right, we had the scores up prior to riders cooling off. This is going to happen dangit. (stronger words were around last night)... but the main things are this, I dont' give up easy, we will perfect this, and have you guys scores and awards in a reasonable time. Main thing is the course and fun day seems everyone liked the day and until the end it went well. ALL awards will be mailed this week. thanks again

wardy

ps Anne, you were racing a girl that rides there every sunday and is a year member, she likely knows those trails pretty well, hope that gas gas heals up!

Posted by: AnneBrooks---------------------

Thanks, Wardy! Yes, Theresa is a pal of mine and we ride together a few times a year. I wiped out right after the start so she got away from me and I could not catch up after that. No big deal, I will get her next race and my Gas Gas will be fixed by then. In any event, I had a ball and the course was great! See you soon..

Posted by: Bob Brooks---------------------

The course was definitely a fun one, probably the best so far that I've done at FVOR. Lots of varied terrain, some virgin stuff...it was good. The scoring was certainly a headache, and I hope that's something that gets ironed out for the next one. I know I was somehow scored incorrectly. Anne had me figured somewhere around 3rd or 4th in +30B, and that's usually where I finish. When the results were posted, they had me in 13th place and a lap down, which definitely wasn't right. A good buddy of mine, Brent Pierce, was scored in 5th place and I know for a fact I finished ahead of Brent. I followed him for the first couple of laps, passed him and never saw him again and when the race ended, he came in a few minutes behind me. But somehow, he was scored in 5th place, way ahead of me, and credited with doing 8 laps while my score only showed 7. Several guys that I clearly remember passing were scored really high in the class, so something definitely wasn't right. I don't know if all the classes were that way, but something was definitely amiss in 30B. I suppose it's possible that I didn't get my fender marked properly at one of the checkpoints and they had me a lap down. I don't know? I don't really care about the points or the trophy, but it was a little frustrating. I don't like to whine about it, but I know something definitely was not right.

It was still a good day though. Wardy, my compliments on the track layout and I really hope your scoring issues are behind you. And thanks again for adding the women's class to the program this year. Anne and the rest of them had a ball with it.

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

I must say that the course was fun, very fun. I liked the rock creek the best, but I'm kinda weird like that. I wish I would have had a better day riding, I couldn't keep it on two wheels, but I had a lot of fun.

Wardy, I know Steve, AKA Dumb Sven, and is a good friend also, he thinks there needs to be more technical stuff, but yesterdays course was the best you have had. The only thing I didn't care for was the face slappers in the pine trees, I never like face slappers.

As for the scoreing issue, that is very frustrating. I left after standing around for almost 2 hours with nothing posted. I have put on events for years so I feel that I can complain a little. I know that it is not the easiest thing to do, espically with how many riders you had yesterday, but like I have said before, I think you are trying to hard to automate the scoring. I know you feel that it should be "computerized", but unless you want to spend the money and buy bar code scoring, then the "old way" is the best way to do it. The thing you need to do is have a score barrel for each class (or a couple of classes), then have the score sheet at that barrel. I could go on, but if you want suggestions let me know. I know the District 16 HS director bought the bar code scoring program for their races this year, I have his email and number if you want it.

Anyhow, the course was great, got to see a lot of fellow DRN's and had fun riding my dirt bike. Once the scoring is straightened out, Wardy will have a very good HS series.

Anne, you would have got her if you could've raced your own bike. We'll have to get together so I can teach you how to climb that hill by the road, and show you and Bob some of those passing lines.

Walt

Posted by: 91KDX---------------------

Sorry 2nd time thats happened, Walt I think the kid your talking about was on an IT 175, I think a late 70s maybe? He was probably wearing an old mesh shirt that says Yamaha in red acrossed the chest, Plain White, scared helmet with no top visor. Thats Kirkland very own Carl Bruch. All he owns is Yamaha, and all old stuff (although he is planning on getting a new WR250) He finished the race and had a blast even though he came in last. At the HS in Morrison the guys at the barrels were making fun of him and told his mom that she can get him a better bike than that or at least one with suspension. Hope that clears stuff up.

Posted by: karterron---------------------

Bob

Did you guys stick around for results or are they posted online?

Posted by: Bob Brooks---------------------

Ron, we stuck around for the results, but there was a lot of bickering and arguing over the scoring and lots of people were protesting their finishes. My class, 30B, seemed to be the one with the most problems. I didn't see any resolution happening, so we left at that point.

It was nice to meet you yesterday, Ron. Good to see Ryan, Walt and some of the others.

And Ryan, Anne and I will definitely take you up on the riding tour and lessons! Anytime...let us know.

Posted by: James980---------------------

I think it was a DT. The ITs had plastic tanks and were a lighter shade of blue.

The kid was making it over the log at the barrels better than 75% of the guys on newer bikes, so I think the suspension is just fine.

James

Yeah I was wrong he was riding his DT125 not his IT175. I heard all about the log. He had an awesome time at the race. After hearing all of this I really wished I went to the race!

Posted by: AnneBrooks---------------------

Thanks, Ryan---that would be great! Yeah, she would have had her hands full had I been on my own bike. Theresa did a great job though, she was determined to get out front and take off---and she did exactly that!

Posted by: WaltCMoto---------------------

Wardy,
when do you expect to have the results posted online?
I had to leave so I dont know how I finished.
Ryan,
Your sick if you liked that creek. It was a challenge that I would not have otherwise tried. and by the last couple laps it was getting a tiny bit easier.

Posted by: VOR 492---------------------

(Ryan,
Your sick if you liked that creek.)

Well Walt I will make it two sicko's, I thought the creek bed was Great, wish there was more! Love those big greasy knarly rocks.
Wardy Great job with the trails. Hope thing go a little better next time.
Bob & Anne was nice to meet you two.

Bill

scores are up guys and gals, very sorry for the bullcrap it won't happen again. anyone wanting personal laps compared to other riders I will happy to pick them out and send them to you in excell format and or scanned copys of hand generated lap sheets.

I do have a plan and will announce it prior to the next event.

thanks again
