What if there is a points tie??!!

Here's a scenario that hasn't been discussed - as I understand it, if Chad wins at Vegas (25 pts) and Ricky finishes 6th (15 pts) there will be a points tie, and the title would be decided by the most number of main event wins. Now that would be an interesting way to decide the championship!!

For what it's worth I think the only realistic way of Ricky finishing that low would be one or more crashes, but you never know, pressure has a funny way of affecting people!

BTW, does anyone know the last time (and/or how often) the series champion hasn't won the most mains?

Interesting point. It's weird to think of RC finishing as low as 6th place. I just can't imagine him there. Can you imagine if he was in 6th or 7th with one lap to go? I can just see him literally punching and kicking people as he blew by them!

I think if RC finds himself in 6th or 7th he'll do a Bubba from 2 years ago and ride over his head. He could be his worst enemy.

Great trivia question, and I believe the correct answer would be 1992 when Damon Bradshaw lost the championship to Jeff Stanton.  Bradshaw had more main event wins, but I can't remember how many he won that year.

i will bet any of you dreamers that rc wins the championship. any takers?

Anyone remember how Langston's wheel disintegrated a couple of years back - anything can happen !

You got it correct in that in the case of a tie in series points the tie breaker is most moto wins. If they were still tied it goes to most 2nd place and on down until there is a winner.
As hard as I would find it to believe that RC could go all the way down to 6th (without a major mechanical failure) it is amazing it hasn't happened already at least once in the last 2 seasons.
I like the idea that Reed has proven a very worthy challenger and that by finishing in 2nd this close the gauntlet is thrown down for the outdoors. I am looking forward to the outdoors more then any of the past couple years.

TimR,
I beleive Damon Bradshaw won 9 races that year, i think..
RIck

Ricky,

That sounds right, but I couldn't remember for sure.  I do remember that Bradshaw finished one place out of the place that he needed in order to win the championship.  Bayle practically pulled over and let Bradshaw by because he didn't like Stanton even though they both rode for Honda at the time.  Bayle new that he was leaving at the end of the season, so Honda really couldn't do anything to punish him for his actions.

If i remember right, he finished right behind Guy Cooper.. That was a great year.. Hopefully we'll see an exciting race this weekend My prediction, RC :thumb:

And didn't Ferry win a 125 East title with one (or no) win? BTW, I dont think anything will keep RC from winning this title. I think he has matured to the point where he won't berserk it to win the battle and lose the war. I look forward to the outdoors, a lot of speculation about whether Skippy's confidence will carry over and he will step up to Ricky. I personally don't think so, but it will be fun to watch.

I'll take that bet and your gonna regret because Reed is the best that's ever been (MX547 heheh!) a little Charlie Daniels for ya!!! yeeeeeeee haaaaaaa!
I think RC will self destruct him self, finishing 8th.
See ya Coop37

Reed would win the title because he would have more main event wins 8-7 over RC. This is according to racerx.

I just stumbled across this at racerxill.com:

- The 250 championship also went down to the final race in 1992, not in Las Vegas however. It was the last year the points leader going into the race lost the title in the final round. That year at the LA Coliseum Damon Bradshaw needed a third or better to win the crown if Jeff Stanton won the race. Bradshaw had a record breaking nine wins that season but a sixth at Charlotte, a 19th at Indianapolis, and a ninth at Las Vegas opened the door for Stanton. Bradshaw admitted he blew it finishing fifth while Stanton won the race and the title.

Now if we have a total meltdown and reed gets 3rd while RC gets 11th- RC wins the tie by most 2nd place finishes

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

Only way Reed will win the title is if RC has a DNF.. :scream:

Going to be a good one to watch for sure. Reed is a LOT better than I thought he was; great year.
