how long are your moto's

just curious about how long in length (not laps) are everybody's races. i know they feel like they are forever but it seems like when i put a clock to them they only last 6-8 min. its amazing how whipped your body can feel in 8 min. i guess thats where the title of "most demanding" sport comes from.

Night racing here runs 10 minutes + 1 lap at Mission Raceways, and at the Agassiz track they run 20 minute motos (15 for minis).

Motocross races here for B's are 20mins + 2 laps which usually means 25mins. Grass tracks are usually 5-6mins which kills me more then the 25min motos!

our motos are 4 laps which works out to about 10 minutes.
We have a district 16 track that at the last weekend in May is running 30 minute motos- Great idea but the problem is that moto 1 is on Sat and Moto2 on sunday. we have so many district classes that is the only way to get them all in.
The idea is good but I don't like the idea of being tied up for 2 days at one track for 2 motos. I am thinking a different way might be run moto 1 and 2 for x classes Sat then moto 1 and 2 for the rest on Sunday. if you choose 2 classes on different days that is your decision.

many of the tracks in the state championship series here use that format. saturday the big bikes and vets run, sunday are the minis, pee wees, women and vintage. i like it better. you don't have to start practice at 7:00 a.m., you don't have to sit for six hours waiting for your moto, the track stays in better shape and there is more time for track prep and maintenance, and you don't have to worry about laps getting cut. there is still alot of complaining though.

The b class here in Finland runs 20 mins+2laps, and the club internal races are 15 or 20 min + 2 laps.

Our club runs 15-20 min races, usually the first moto is 20 and the other 2 moto's are 15. But on a club day they are 10-15 and then at least one of the moto's will be a 20-25 min race. And once a year they run a 2 hour moto.

A two hour moto!!! Does anyone actually have the stamina to complete he full two hours? Surely the riders can't charge hard for two hours???

Posted by: Zenith---------------------

They run a race like that here once a year as well called the Hundred Miler. It runs for three hours. You do it in teams of two and can pit whenever necessary to change bike&rider and get fuel etc. It's my favourite race of the year!

For other's posts it seems like the European races are generally longer. I always wondered how they managed to cram so many different classes into one day in the US... We'd never have more then 6 classes here so there is more time for longer races...

In Montana, they seem to run 10 to 20 minute motos (and they're timed, unlike the lap numbers, like in California).

The Old Timers Motocross club of Riverside <www.rotmx.org> runs several races a year as a 45 minute single moto "GP". Or they run a weekend program, a so-called "International", that is 3 motos on Saturday, and 2 on Sunday.

Mine are about like Gene's since we're from the same part of the country but once a year Whitney has the Iron Man which I really enjoy. It's a one hour moto and believe me it takes it's toll on ya. Last year it was a GP start, someone had to hold your bike and when they dropped the flag everyone had to run through all that sand, in MX boots no less, to a dead engine start. Next one is Memorial Day, can't wait!

Posted by: marcusgunby---------------------

Our races are 15mins +1 lap and normally we have 3 races-today however we had a extra memorial race for two club members who were killed in a car accident. That as well as putting the track up yesterday and taking it down today adds up to some serious grafting (work)

Yep we have riders that go hard for 2 hours, of course 2 hours ( and its ot a teams event) takes its toll on ya. But the track for that race is always natural terrian and is made longer so that laps are between 2-4 mins a lap, around that time a lap. But mind you our club has a guy that can win a 6 hour race by himself againist teams. Plus the guy that one this year is also leading the north island x-country champs in the 250 2-stroke class. I did 26 laps and he did 38. But hitting the beers the night before is my sort of training

When I started racing( in the 70's) back in Manitoba, one club used to end the year with a 50 Lap race, it was tough. In the 80's our club ran a 2 hour moto at the end of the year, it was great! My biggest peeve about MX now is that the motos are too short, they have too many classes so everyone gets short motos. I guess I am used to hare scrambles and cross country races now where we ride for 2-3 hours. The Old Timers club puts on an Internatonal MX every year here and they run 3 motos on Sat. and 2 motos on Sun. 20-25 mins long. Those races are fun. I remember riding National MX's that were 45 mins long! Now that was brutal! I guess the kids today aren't in good enough shape for long motos!
