Under the presumption that you mean to ask, "What are the conventional rules one should be cognizant of when competing in a hare scramble", I offer the following:

-- don't start your engine until the starter drops the board (or flag, or fires his shotgun, etc.)

-- don't cut across someones line in the first turn (or the second, for that matter)

-- don't ride more than 20 feet from the marked course; this changes from circuit to circuit - some circuits simply say "keep the trail in sight"

-- when someone catches you from behind, the clock is ticking; when you see a wide spot in the trail move over & let them by - they caught you, they're faster, and if you mess around with them you won't like the outcome (God help you if you try to start racing with an A rider who's trying to stay in front of his class when he catches you)

-- if you stall on the trail (especially a hill), and can get moving quickly, do so; if not you'd best get your bike off the trail, because it might get run over ($$)

-- DO NOT run into the workers at the checkpoints, and wait until they say GO before leaving the check

-- wheelie to your heart's content

-- and have fun!

p.s. - have you done a search in the Enduro/Hare Scramble forum for threads with "First Harescramble", "First Race", etc? Lot of good advice in there...
