I am starting to look for a PW50, XR50 or a JR50 for my Son. I am looking to spend between $600-$750 for the bike with possibly a helmet. I will pay a little more if I can get some boots that will fit my boy. I would preferably like a blue (or white) PW, I know the older ones were Yellow and I don't really want one that old. As far as the JR, I know they changed the bike completely in '98, maybe '99. I'm not sure when that took place but I would be interested in the newer body style. Does anyone have anything that would fit the bill?

I am located in Charlotte, NC and will be willing to travel a little for the right bike/price.

Mike the PW's haven't changed for a looooong time. The yellow, white, and blue versions are all the same except for the color. I picked up a well used white one about 6 years ago when my son was starting out and let him crash the white plastic for 6 months before making it a blue bike over the winter. Initial cost was $550 then all the parts including new tires, tubes, brakes, grips, graphics, gripper seat, plastic, frame epoxy & wheel paint added about $300. I sold it 18 months later for about $900. They are solid little bikes the hold their value so if your stuck on a newer one be prepared to spend some extra $. Good luck!

All right, I'll look at white ones too, Mr. Patman says so. I just know some of the white ones come with pink seats. My boy will think it's a girls bike. You do make a good point though, with the right price I can just get a seat cover for it.

Well if you have any way to transport (these things fit in the back of a car), I have a VERY nice XR50 for sale for $900.

LOL! I know what ya' mean about the girls bike thing. Ours had that funky purple seat with white plastic and "fuschia" (aka PINK!) shock springs AND shrouds. It actually didn't look too bad with the new biright blue plastic and blue/black gripper seat. You might also consider an allen bolt with a jam nut to confound the litle mechanic from trying to make his own throttle stop adjustments. It took mine twice before he had the wrench out but the allen wrench and box end business was a bit more difficult for him to figure out as long as I didn't leave the excat tools laying around.

BTW that XR50 should ship pretty cheap, I'd guess less than $100 with insurance.

Hey Mike, to completely update the plastic isn't too bad. By all means, if you can get into an older one for cheap, providing it runs good, do it! Seat cover, air box, gas tank, front fender/no. plate piece, and rear fender/number plate piece on our PW 80 was about $200 or so. Make sure you ask them for the seat COVER, as the seat is about a hundred bucks, where the seat cover is much more reasonable.

BTW, our PW80 is a 91... PINK seat and PINK airbox. This bike has been through my younger sister and brother and is now born again as a pit bike. Pics soon to come

In case you were interested, I saw a 95 z-50 for $650 on the ecea.org website. Click on BB to get to the forums, and its under classifieds. I think it is in NY, but as stated previously, they aren't that much to ship. Good luck in finding one.
