How wet was it?

I'm planning a ride there next Saturday with a local riding buddy (doing Hatfield-McCoy on Sunday) and another might make the trip with me from Chicago but he's worried a bit about the mud. I'm just hoping I can give him some good news about the conditions.

Thanks,
James

Posted by: smb_racing---------------------

A couple guys I know went on saturday, the word for that day was WET from what I heard. One guy said he spent most of the day picking up his bike or gaining mileage without the bike, and he was riding a thumper

Posted by: KelvinKDX---------------------

We were there Saturday (Door Run Lot #5).  It didn't start to rain until we got there and didn't stop until we left.  Just kidding - it was actually raining before we got there.

Wet is right - but it was fun.  Had to be careful when carrying a lot of speed as it was nearly as slick as snot.

But we did have a great time.

I'll be going with my wife next week-end - camping at Williams Camp ground.

I am off all weekend, and i am in need of some ride time, anyone going to Wayne this weekend and need a riding buddy?

Posted by: James980---------------------

Well, the guy who was going to come down from Chicago with me isn't coming, but I'll still be there with my Ohio riding buddy on Saturday.

Not sure where we'll park, but the usual place is back the dirt road off of 33 just at the top of the hill after it makes the sharp left. We'll be in either a gray full-sized Chevy or a maroon S-10, riding a 2000 CR250 with no graphics (#810) and a KX250. There might be a quad there, too.

James

Posted by: el presidente---------------------

well t appears that Ray, and myself are gonna be there for sure. If yall don't mind us tagging along, or yall taggin along w/ us that would be cool. Let me know

Posted by: James980---------------------

That's cool. I'm not sure if my Ohio buddy will be dragging along any other locals, though. And I don't know if we'll have any quads around that we'll have to wait for or what not. We should be there by nine or 10 or so Saturday morning, maybe earlier. A lot of my plan depends on him, so that's about as firm as I can get.

If you want, e-mail me at james@midwestmotocross.com. I might get a chance to check that Friday night, but if not, just look for us there.

James

I can't wait.

LET IT RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: el presidente---------------------

Ray, i hate u, lmao

Ask me about my buddy _SPANKING_ me on a clapped out honda 4-wheeler.

The same guy that usually rides the WR200 that I would love to just keep up with - well his bike is down waiting on parts so he borrowed a honda four trax two wheel drive 1990's vintage four wheeler and positively spanked us on the trails.  Of course it was raining the whole time which gave the four-wheelers an advantage, but it was still humiliating!!!

I've been infiltrated - the above post was posted by my buddy using my ID.  He can barely ride a bike so he had to resort to a quad!!

Posted by: el presidente---------------------

Kelvin u gonna be there this weekend? I would like to put a good ride together for this weekend. I am not vey familiar w/ the trails out to Wayne other than the main loop. So i would like ot have some people show me more of it.

Posted by: smb_racing---------------------

Crap, why must I have been born a poor boy who must work for a living?
How's it going Kelvin (I know that's not your real name, but I can't remember yours). Haven't seen you around the boards much lately, you and Wendy will have to come down sometime for a little richland riding later this summer. By the way what ever became of the pictures Wendy's friend too at DW'01? Did any of them turn out?

Wendy & i will probably go down to WNF Saturday night or Sunday morning.  You may not want to ride with us as things can get pretty slow with Wendy riding.

Jeff - the name is Jim!    And Richland Furnace works for us.

Posted by: el presidente---------------------

hey i don't care if she is slower than most, the more the merrier. just wanna have some people to ride w/. i haven't heard from Ray in a few days as to when we will meet up at Wayne. yall are more than welcome to ride w/ us

Posted by: KelvinKDX---------------------

We're going to go down to WNF Sunday morning and park at LOT#5,  Plan to be down there and ready to ride around 10am.

Attention!!!!!!! If you guys see this before you leave for Wayne please look for my Motorcycle. There is a picture under general discussion CRF stolen, Ohio. I just had a neighbor tell me they saw it 5/14/03 @ the Dorr Run parking lot #1. He did not realize mine had been stolen or what it looked like @ that time. He said there was 2 20ish white guys driving a blue Chevy Corsica pulling a small black trailer with just my bike on it. They were bragging about the bike being stolen, he just thought they were punk kids telling stories, until yesterday. My bike was stolen on 5/12/03. He said it looked just like the picture at that time. Thank you in advance. Tim

I took a look - can't miss a yellow CRF450.  We'll keep an eye out.

We were there on Saturday. Didn't see anything along those lines, but that's probably because if anything we had our eyes peeled for a buddy's XR400 that was just stolen.

The trails were fine, by the way. Sure, there were wet spots, but nothing terrible as long as you saw it coming. Now, THIS weekend, they should be perfect.

We did the Hatfield-McCoy Bear Wallow trailhead the next day. Generally, I hate that nasty rocky stuff, but I guess I was feeling rather masochistic that day and had a blast.

Anyone familiar with Bear Wallow ever go UPHILL on 183? We went up on the black ones (88, 94, etc.) but didn't go down 183 until the end of the day and didn't have enough fuel (for the bikes or ourselves) to attempt the trip up once we made it down.

Yep - pretty sure at least.  I remember some real nasty uphills last time i was there.  For some reason 94 has my name on it (and it's not all that hard).

That quad makes a nice stepping stone!

Posted by: James980---------------------

Trail 183 is the longest single track on the east side of the blasting area. Coming down, it looked much more difficult than going up any of the black trails. We had no trouble going both up and down the other single track at Bear Wallow, #193 and 194, I think.

The key for us to trail 94 is about 150 yards from the top there's this left hand turn after which there are two rock strewn four wheeler tracks that it's very easy to get crossed up in. If that happens, it's bye-bye momentum and back down for another try. What worked for us is to take the turn a little wide and ride on the side of the bank above the trail for about 25 feet. Then you can drop down into the left-most rut and chug on up.

The one thing you learn riding at that place is line selection. It's hard with those rocks, especially if you're not used to them, but satisfying when you make it.

Of course, I'm sure a four stroke would be much better for those trails than a 250cc motocrosser.

The guy told me he knew he wouldn't make it and did that on purpose. Quad riders are so weird.

I realize this is to late, and I'm sorry for your loss.

My buddy Rich had his yz400 stolen or whatever that tractor is called... ?.. .. and his ins. got him back 4200 ? I believe?

He pays $80 dollars to 110 dollars per year for such coverage.... reply if your interested and I'll get more information for ya, I'm actually looking into purchasing it next month... for my wifes bike and mine.

Posted by: James980---------------------

Could you post the company name and whether they have exclusions for racing? I've always found that to be a sticking point with every company I've talked to, even with local po-dunk, non-sanctioned stuff. They always say, "If we determine you were at a race, traveling to a race or practicing (!?!) for a race, any damage or theft isn't covered." I'd love to find one that doesn't exclude that, though.

OleDrewBudd, it's been a while man! Which Rich are you talking about that had his yz400 stolen, the one that comes down here with Bill Hibbs and Dennis? How're things going, how's your wife (michelle?) She still riding the little thumper?

Posted by: KelvinKDX---------------------

Yeah Andrew,

I was thinking the same thing.  Good to see ya.  Tell your wife that Wendy got a KX100.  Someday she'll actually get to ride it too.  :thumb:
