Is this okay?

How do the KDX 200 and 220s compare in low end pulling power with a DR-Z 250? Do they chug along the same as the DR-Z. I need almost exactly the same power as the DR-Z 250 but with a little more snappiness. Thanks.

Then the KDX is the right bike for you.

The 200 or 220?

Posted by: Rich Rohrich---------------------

The 200 is a much better engine with a lot more potential, the 220 is the redheaded step child of the KDX family.

Just curious since I don't know much about the KDX's. What makes the 200 a better motor over the 220? And what do you mean by more "potential"?

Posted by: Rich Rohrich---------------------

The porting on the 220 is completely hosed and even guys like Eric Gorr can't fix it. The 200 can be modified to satisfy an incredibly wide range of riders, while the 220 is NOT going to get a whole lot better than it is in stock form. If a rider is happy with the 220 out of the box than none of this probably matters, but it appears that most KDX riders keep their bikes for an extended period of time and eventually modify them to better suit their specific needs as they grow with the bike. In cases like this the 200 is just a MUCH better starting point. A big bore 200 is just an all around better motor than a modified factory 220.

Eric is at the point where he doesn't even want to take in 220s for porting anymore because he knows that he can't extract the type of gains that people expect from him.

Thanks Rich!! I figured I'd ask since you got some good smarts about these dirt motorbikes.

Will the 200 have as much low end as a my DRZ though?

Posted by: dancrosbie---------------------

Well I've been told the KDX 200 will be good for me (I'm coming off of a DR-Z 250) but I've read other posts about people with xr 200s that thought the KDX was pretty crazy. Will the KDX have enough low end to litteraly jug slowly down the trail and up steep hills? I'm still somewhat of a beginner so I don't know and I'm confused. Ha ha. Thanks guys!

yeah man

Posted by: dancrosbie---------------------

Which MX 2 stroke has THE MOST SIMILAR power to a KDX 200?

Posted by: beer_stud_76---------------------

1998 KX250....but thats beside the point. KDXs are everywhere. go bum a ride on one.

I am thinking of getting a 2003 RM 125. I'm 6' and 230 lbs. (big guy) and im in my teens. I'm still somewhat of a begginer, and ride both a DR-Z 250 and the 400E version. I do trails and a tid bit of mx but no racing yet. (maybe this year tho) Will the 125 be okay for me? Any suggestions?

dancrosbie -

do you want to MX or trail ride? if you want to MX, the RM125 (or any other 125) is a poor choice for you unless you can drop 50lbs. a 125 CC engine cannot properly motivate a 230 pounder on a sandy or hilly MX track. if you want to MX in the 125 class, get a YZF250.

if you want to trail ride (even ride competitively off road), look good and hard at the KDX. as for the KDX being "pretty crazy," consider the source: people happy with their XR200s consider everything "pretty crazy," like XR250s!

to boil it down to a few short sentences: 1) if you want to MX, make it a 4 stroke 250(YZF) or a 2 stroke 250, or a 4 stroke 400-450. 2) if you want a fast trail bike, make it a KDX. there are no circumstances i can think of whereby a 125 would be good for you.

Thanks man. I've just heard of guys that are as big as I am riding 125s and that's why i brought it up. Thanks again!

Posted by: dancrosbie---------------------

Oh yea i forgot to add to that last post that I'm pretty sure I want a two stroke mxer so I don't really want a yz 250f.

Posted by: dancrosbie---------------------

Anymore suggestions?

Posted by: dancrosbie---------------------

Someone has to have more suggestions about 125s for me!
