The porting on the 220 is completely hosed and even guys like Eric Gorr can't fix it. The 200 can be modified to satisfy an incredibly wide range of riders, while the 220 is NOT going to get a whole lot better than it is in stock form. If a rider is happy with the 220 out of the box than none of this probably matters, but it appears that most KDX riders keep their bikes for an extended period of time and eventually modify them to better suit their specific needs as they grow with the bike. In cases like this the 200 is just a MUCH better starting point. A big bore 200 is just an all around better motor than a modified factory 220. Eric is at the point where he doesn't even want to take in 220s for porting anymore because he knows that he can't extract the type of gains that people expect from him. |
