I have a DRZ 250 now and it is ok in the sand but I am looking at a KDX 220 what is your opinion on this bike in general?

Go to Canadian Daves Just KDX forum

I have a 220 and love it for the type riding I do, logging roads, tight trails and hill climbs.

If I wanted a KDX for sand and other wide open spaces I would go with the 200. The 200 is a Rev machine vs the 220 low end grunt, stump puller. You can make the 220 rev like the 200 with a -30 rev pipe, larger bore carb etc...
But all said and done the 200 is probably the more versatile of the two.

That said I love that thing, it has some shortcomings but they are cheaply and easily fixed. I mostly just trail ride but if I were going to race MX I'd get a different bike. But for trails or playing at MX it is great. Go to the KDX forum mentioned above and you will get all the answers that you need.

I would tend to go with the 200 and not the 220. Especially if you eventually want to do any mods to it. Why?? Well to be quite honest I trust Rich Rohrich's knowledge of bikes. Here's a quote from another thread in this forum...

Quote:
The porting on the 220 is completely hosed and even guys like Eric Gorr can't fix it. The 200 can be modified to satisfy an incredibly wide range of riders, while the 220 is NOT going to get a whole lot better than it is in stock form. If a rider is happy with the 220 out of the box than none of this probably matters, but it appears that most KDX riders keep their bikes for an extended period of time and eventually modify them to better suit their specific needs as they grow with the bike. In cases like this the 200 is just a MUCH better starting point. A big bore 200 is just an all around better motor than a modified factory 220.

Eric is at the point where he doesn't even want to take in 220s for porting anymore because he knows that he can't extract the type of gains that people expect from him.
