North East Caravan

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Anyone interested in joining the North East Caravan should give a shout here. Last year the Train started in central Pa and picked up steam as it headed west.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

That's not what I heard...that version had something about wheels falling off left and right.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Oh yea.... That was the highlight of the journey.  We even had a Pizza delivery during one of the blow-outs along I-70.

We lost something like 4 RV tires and 4 trailer tires. The Conductor felt that they were all a result of excessive speeds, therefore, the speed limit of this years caravan is restricted to 65mph.  :thumb:

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

Sure. I think we are leaving for Stillwater on Sunday morning (0-dark-30). We'd be passing through central PA around 9 or 10 am.

Speaking of wheels falling off, is the Pizza Delivery Boy still alive? I havent heard a word from Tailbone since Shawn picked my bike up from him after DW. Tell him to let us know if he's going again this year. I know he's not that computer illerate that he cant post from somewhere.

The Silver bullet will be in the caravan again this year and hopefully with 2 copilots for the ride home. We arent taking the popup this year as Shawn's dad bought an enclosed trailer so we are stealing it instead. I want to be there by noon on Monday so hopefully we can get the schedule worked out with drivers so we can do a semi straight thru drive.

Leaving Sunday moring sounds good to me as it took us 25 hours doing 65/70 with a 4 hour nap. So if we leave by 9am on sunday we can allow for a 5 or 6 hour nap near St Louis again pending unseen tire blow outs.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Departure times... may need to think about that a bit. Keep in mind, DW03 Officially begins Monday morning when the Roost is thrown.... I mean when the Rooster crows. A full nights rest would be a good thing so we are ready to go Monday morning.

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

I thought that Monday was mostly a set-up day. Looking at the schedule it looks like there is no reason to get there early on Monday morning...

Monday
=========
Arrivals, set-up.... HS/Poker Run course work/marking.
Big Top set-up, paperwork, etc.
Volunteer Meeting
Open Riding

I'm going to have a lot of very impatient kids (and maybe some adults) with me so I'd hate to get there early and tell them that they can't ride because of track maintenance. For that reason I registered for Tuesday. You can ride on Monday after 5:00 with a tuesday registration.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Monday is open riding....

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

An a day to get use to everything before most of the people arrive to laugh at you when you see them jumps and go

Haha!

What can i say, i'm not good enough or fast enough to place high enough to get a trophy. So i have to go all out for the trophies i can get. Its either that or i see BillyWho as an idol. An Steve, remind me to ride YOUR bike.

Kids in our group include 2 eight-year olds, 3 eleven year-olds, a 14 year old girl and three 40 year-old men.

I do realize that we can ride on Monday but it sounded as though most will be busy setting-up for the week. As much as I'd like to help with that (really) I'm going to have to keep an eye on the kids the first day because they'll be NUTS. I thought a late arrival on Monday would be good for them to get an hour or so of riding after we make camp. This way they can start-off on Tuesday in a MX class.

Posted by: Dapper---------------------

I'm leaving about 6:00am on Sunday the 28th which will put me in Columbus,Oh about 12 noon. If any of you guys are going to be there around the same time (give or take and hour) maybe we could hook up. When the time comes we can exchange cell phone numbers to coordinate. Lets keep the post going. :thumb:

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

Dapper,

Columbus looks like a good place to meet up. Most of the PA/NJ caravan will be taking I-70 straight through to St. Louis where we hook-up with I-44. If you are coming down I-71, that intersects with I-70 in Columbus.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Columbus, OH was our meeting place the last 2 years.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I had planned on leaving after work Saturday, but I think I can wait till Sunday to join the rest of the group.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

If you feel like making part of the trip early, your welcome to stay here and get a fresh start in the moring.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

<SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana">I did a little research on Streets and it looks like exit 91 off I-70 near Columbus has a lot to offer as far as food and gas.&nbsp; Bob Evans, Perkins, Salvis Bistro, Steak 'n Shake, Wendy's, Cracker Barrel, McDonald's, Burger King, Fazoli's, Arby's, White Castle, Taco Bell, Frisch's Big Boy, Subway&nbsp;and&nbsp;KFC for food all within 1 mile of the exit.&nbsp; There is a shell, Marathon, BP and SuperAmerica gas stations there as well.&nbsp; We could meet for lunch there at 12:00. Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

Did you say White Castle?

Is that an exit or a junk food convention.

Posted by: efergason---------------------

No, Tailbone is not dead, he has only been in hibernation.
I am planning on going to dw this year. I am just trying to work out the time from work as I will be pushing the vacation envelope for time this year.
I will be traveling in a bit more style this year, no more sleeping in the bike trailer with the bike. rv air shower and a queen size bed. Anyone trying to email me can reach me at efergason@aol for about a week then @ mxrider147@adelphia.net.
Treejumper is your bike ready to go and I thought you were changing your name to splinter cause of your stellar motorcross skills.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

He Lives!!

Yep, both bikes are ready to go. So an RV are you? Must be nice! Does it come with a new bike too? Take it you won the lottery or just traded that noisey desiel for it. We expect pizza delivery too but to make it easy on you, you can just cook it in the RV on your way.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

TailBone

Glad to see your IN. Boneman, Ebbs, Pastout are returning for an encore as well...&nbsp; Now we just need to track down SirReel.

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

Time to resurface this thread from the bottom of the list.

What time is the NE Caravan convening in Columbus? There was talk of 12 noon on Sunday. Assuming that we all drive straight through (with allowances for fuel and bladder stops), that gets us to DW at around 5 or 6 am Monday morning. It also means that most of us will have to get on the road between 3 and 6 am on Sunday morning.

For those reasons, why don't we try to meet at 3 pm. This gives us 3 more hours of sleep and we'd get to DW at a more reasonable 8 to 9 am. With that said, I've never made the trip and I will rely on the judgment of the veterans.

I guess we should also exchange our cell phone numbers. Mine is 909.337.2715

Can’t you just feel the excitement?

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Do you have a CB in the RV? I had a killer Cell phone bill last year due to the massive amount of 1min calls with the added "roam" tower charges, etc. Each minute cost me over a $1 and charged me that even when i didnt answer it. Not doing it again this year. I have Motorola walkie talkies too that we can use. But incase anyone needs it before hooking up, like running late, etc. Mine is 814-541-3727.

As for the trip we usually crash somewhere in Missouri (past St. Lois) for afew hours of sleep. Then finish the trip at sunrise. We made it there alittle after 1PM i believe. Another option is that the place we meet at is a rest stop so you can arrive early and take a nap, etc. Steve and them did that last year and drove some then slept at a truck stop before hooking up in Columbus. Doesnt matter much to me as i'll go with whatever the group wants. So everyone post their thoughts.

Posted by: dead---------------------

Tailbone(Eric) and I are going to try and stay at my folks in Joplin, MO. It's about 185 miles from Stillwater and is right off 44. There are plenty of parking areas near their place. The area is nice too if people want to follow us that far before stopping. I'm sure my folks can open their home to anyone needing to use a real bathroom and etc.

I'm with Tree Jumper on the cell thing. Walkie talkie's or a CB would be nice for everyone to have.

I'm getting stoked!

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

I'll go to radio shack and get a CB then. Thanks for the heads-up.

Posted by: Dapper---------------------

I figure to still leave about 6am on Sunday. Should be around Columbus about Noon. Plan on driving til 7 or 8 and find a motel. Then leave at 6am Monday for the rest of the trip. Or I might just catch some sleep at a rest area. Depends on how I feel. Don't want to waste a day recooperating from the drive. We should touch base when it get closer. :thumb:

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I had the same plans as Dapper.....get an early start on Sunday, drive till about 8-9 and get a good nite sleep, then get to Ok sometime late Monday.&nbsp;

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Too bad one of you guys (Dan and Dapper) didnt have a huge trailer. I just got a Ram Quad cab that 4 people could fit in comfortable. Only thing would be all the gear and bikes. Shawn has a 10' or 12' that we are hualing but i'm not sure on the size. Or you two should meet at my place in PA and consolidate your stuff into one truck. I hate to see anyone have to drive the whole trip solo. Shawn had to do that last year after i broke the ankle and he said it wasnt any fun. Think of the gas you'd save! My place is safe to leave a vehicle for the week, heck the grandparents live next door and they are better than a watch dog! (dont tell them i said that! )

Posted by: Dapper---------------------

That's not a bad idea but, all I have is an S10. Unless scooter has a bigger truck. I also plan on staying untii Sunday.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I have a Silverado extra cab, but I'm not sure that I am traveling solo just yet,&nbsp;&nbsp;and if I have a passanger, I will be using the moto-jack-rack for the extra bike since I already have 2 in the bed of the truck.&nbsp;

And if&nbsp;RMguy can convince the wife to let him go,&nbsp;I made an offer to transport his bike if he wants to fly down for a couple days.&nbsp; If neither of these happens, I would have room for 1 more bike, and passanger.&nbsp; Hmmmm a private watch dog, if Dapper left some food and water in his truck, would they sit in the truck and bark at anyone who got close

And if it doesn't work out, I don't mind the drive alone, I actually enjoy The long drives, I go to Florida and Maine to visit family&nbsp;a couple times a year, and usually do the drive alone.....I find it relaxing, until i get stuck in traffic, or see the flashing lights behind me.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Well kept us posted at to what happens. If you do get a passenger we still might be able to get Dapper in my truck and save a drive. An if you dont get a passenger but get RM_guys bike we can still probably fit Dappers in the trailer or bed of my truck. That way you could still ride together and some gas money. We'll see what we can do as time gets closer.

I had to laugh today as i got the registration for my new truck today. There was a window sticker with a #2 on it for vehicle class. I was wondering what it was and why? Here the dealer registered my truck as a 3/4 ton instead of 1/2 ton. Going to have to ask where my 2500 series badges are.

Posted by: Dapper---------------------

No problem either way. I hope Dave (RM_Guy) gets to go. I don't mind the long drives as I drove NY to Ca solo

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

We will see what happens as it gets closer.&nbsp; I don't mind the company or the solo ride, either is fine with me, but i will let you know as soon&nbsp; as I find out if i have any passengers, or extra bikes with me.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

I have a set of 5 mile range walkie talkies... they work awesome for a Caravan. I have some good news... The wife is allowing me to take my son out of school for the week, so I am stoked about that.
If we drive to exit 18 off I-44 Joplin Mo from exit 91 off I-70 near Columbus ... which sounds like a good idea to me, we can get a good nights rest before the last leg of the journey. That should take 12 1/2 to 13 hours without flats.. LOL. If we leave Columbus by 11am... we should get to Joplin MO between 10 and 11pm. (We gain an hour going out). Does that work for everyone?
Has anyone heard anything from SirReel? I hope he can make it again.

Posted by: efergason---------------------

Any of you PA guys leaving sat. night and need a place to crash till sunday morning can stay at my place. It's in richfield ohio, which is at the intersection of I-77 and I-80(turnpike). It takes approx. 1hr 45min to columbus. also got room for a couple in the rv if you want to pitch in for gas.

Email me @ mxrider147@adelphia.net if your interested

Tailbone

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Does ayone have room for an additonal bike? We may have 7 going with us and can only fit 6 in the Eagle mover.

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

I might have room for one out, but not back. We're bringing home Stan Flemmings KDX.

Posted by: SirReel---------------------

<--- isn't dead either. Just avoiding the site since I was 150% sure I was going to have to miss DW due to work. But now, it looks like I might be able to swing it, if 1 work will let me take off for sure, and 2 if Okie will let me sign up past the 9/1 deadline... If I can get past those 2 I'm in. I've moved a little further south but meeting the train around St. Louis would work again.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Glad to hear your still alive!

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Awesome SirReel ! I can see another incredible DW shaping up....

ALL ABOARD FOR COOPERLAND !!

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Looks like I am going to miss the caravan.&nbsp; I am not going to be able to make it for the whole week as planned, but am still hoping to get there Wednesday or Thursday.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Half the week is better than none! Plus you'll be there for the better half.

Posted by: SirReel---------------------

It's now official, I'm in! I've got all new info so somebody email me at derrickm@mchsi.com so we can get cell #'s and figure out an approximation for when you'll be hitting St. Louis, and then I'll be there about 6 hours later This is going to be awesome!

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Sent you mail!

Posted by: jabroni1m---------------------

Anyone in this caravan going near chicago with room for a dirtbike????

Posted by: jabroni1m---------------------

Bike only, no humans. :-)

Posted by: efergason---------------------

Where is the northeast caravan planning on meeting up on Sunday.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

I'd assume the same spot as the last 2 years. First rest stop past Columbus Ohio on I-70. Steve would know better than I.

Any verdict on your RV?

Here's what Eric told me in an email last night.

Quote:
Good news on the RV. My brother in law helped me pull the motor and tranny this past weekend. Motor blown, needs rebuilt ( guess that's the bad news ), motor will be rebuilt by thursday and tranny gone over and ready by thursday also. Hopefully all put back together and at least 100 miles on it by Sunday and sitting in my driveway ready to go Saturday morning.

Please, God, let it run strong again!

:thumb:

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Ok... Time is getting short...
1) Who is going to have walkie talkies for the Caravan? I have two 5 mile range and can lend one out.
2) If you have a cell phone, PM me with the number and I'll PM you mine.
3) Is everone good with the meeting at an exit or rest area after Columbus OH at noon and traveling to within 3 - 4 - 5 hours of Cooperland for some much needed rest? (we can be a bit flexable with the time) If that is good with everyone, I will run it through Microsoft Streets so those that are joining as we head west will know the aproximate time we'll be passing through.
4) I'll have 4 other capable drivers with me, so if anyone is going solo or just needs a breather from driving - I'm sure one of them would be happy to take over for a spell.

Posted by: dead---------------------

#3 is important. I am going to drive up to where you guys are stopping and load up then. First rest stop after Columbus(would be before C-bus for me)??

I have unlimited weekend minutes with Sprint so I might be the contact person in Tailbones' group. Not sure what his phone plan is. PM me if you'd like my #

Posted by: efergason---------------------

How about meeting at exit 36 off I-70. There is a delivery or pickup pizza hut just north of I-70 and I believe there is a walmart or k-mart right behind it.
That way dead can meet us there and we can load up while we are waiting.
I will also be running just over 60mph for this trip to break in the new motor. If that doesn't work then will fly solo. I only have 1 spare for the trailer and one for the coach so let's limit the number of flats this year. Although, I'm the only one other than sir reel that didn't get one. I've got a couple of hand held walkies( 2 miles) and a hand held cb. maybe a cb in the coach if we get time to put it in.

Tailbone

Posted by: dead---------------------

Not sure where exit 36 is at but it's fine with me. C'mon Sunnnnnday!

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

I have 2 hand held walkies (2 mile) too. Doesnt matter where we hook up as i'll be with Tailbone before the meeting place anyways. I'll need to know from SirReel How long it will take for him to get to the meeting place near St. Louis? That way i can call him when we get within that distance so he doesnt have to wait around on the on ramp if we're late. It worked last year.

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

If you check up the thread, exit 91 was mentioned as being convenient for those traveling west on I-70 and south on I-71 - not to mention it seems to be the Mecca of fast food and gas stops. One thing is for sure, we should agree on an exit and location before Friday! Noon sounds like a good meeting time.

EDIT: OMG, I just realised that I'll have to leave my house at 4:00AM to meet up at noon

2PM is starting to sound a lot better

Tailbone

Thanks a lot! Now I better go buy a couple of spares to cover the jinx you just put on me

TJ - It'll take me about 2 hours to get to STL but since I'll be coming from the south this year, it might be easier to meet at the 70/55/64 interchange just this side of the river??? Not that big of a deal, as I'm sure we'll get it all figured out by the time you guys make it there.

Don't have a walkie talkie, but sounds like we should be covered with everyone else's. I do have a cell though, and minutes won't be a problem for me, heck I work for the company

Is it Sunday yet?

Posted by: SirReel---------------------

hmmm... can't edit my posts anymore??? or send PM's guess I'll have to pony up with the cash one of these days. So, drop an email to derrickm@mchsi.com or derrick.martin@verizon.com (work) and we can exchange #'s...

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

RV - The Eagle crew will be leaving Saturday night and drive till we are within 3 - 4 hours of Columbus for some Zzzz's. It worked well for us and last year and we didn't have to be up by 3am to get rolling. If we bump the time to 12:30 at exit 36 would that work for you?

Tailbone - We are not running 75 - 85 like last year. The plan is to set the curse control on 65 and take it easy. If we travel 60, the Injen's might catch us and steal all our bikes!

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

12:00 at exit 91 or 12:30 at 36...it's really all the same. We'll bust butt to make the rendezvous location.

Posted by: efergason---------------------

lets say 12:30 at exit 91. Sounds like dead is hooking up with someone else so we may only need to stop and go near dayton for them to jump on board the DW Express Whooooo Whoooooo.

Dirtweeeeeeeeeeeek here we come. ( sorry guys can't hold back any more)

Tailbone

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Ok - The time is set - Everyone shoot for Noon at exit 91. We'll pull out of there at 12:30 or sooner if everyone is ready to roll !

Mercy sakes alive - Looks like we've got ourselves a Convoy!

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

How about everyone post who is exactly going to convoy with us so we know that everyone is there.

Posted by: Dapper---------------------

I'm going to try and hook up with you guys in Columbus. Treejumper I have your cell number and I'll give you a call around 11:30 just ot see where you are.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

:thumb:

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

See you guys at 12:00 @ exit 91. My cell is 908.337.2715.

I'll be the guy with bloodshot eyes. Actually, I'm going to try and leave Saturday night, dive for 4 hours and find a place to park the RV along I-76. That should give us a much better start for the trip.

Posted by: dead---------------------

Not sure when my ride will be leaving. Maybe Saturday. Going to try and see if we can roll with the caravan. My cell number is 937-422-3790 and real name is Kevin. If we roll with you guys Sunday we'd meet you on the road around Dayton (i-70/i-75 intersect). If someone could call us when you get close to Dayton that would be awesome. Be careful everyone.

Posted by: dead---------------------

Also, I'll be stopping at my parents house in Joplin(MO). It's about 3 hours from CL. Anyone in the Caravan is welcome to stop there.

Here is their address. 421 Plaza Drive Joplin, MO 64804

Take the Joplin/Racine (exit 6) (right after Rangline Rd exit) stay to the right and merge (this will be N. Main St)
Go north 3/4 of a mile(go through 1 light, pass school on right, then one more light). There will be a motel named the Capri Inn on the right. Turn right at this street. (unsure of name)
The first first street on your left turn left. This side street points you directly at my parents house. (white with brick face, fenced in yard, jeep and toyota in driveway) There are plenty of places to park along the street and my dad has extension cords to charge the RV's with. Their phone number is 417-624-4712 if you'd like to call. My dads name is Bob and mothers name is Jennifer.

Posted by: dead---------------------

Ok, plans are finalized. We are leaving Sunday but will not be meeting up with the caravan(leaving early AM). Feel free to call me for a road report(number is above)

Blazin the trail, oh yeaaaaa.
