Q's on a 93 RM 250

Hi guys, been lurking here for a little bit now and reading the posts. Its a good forum. Im a road rider at the moment Have a 1999 R1 and am looking to get back in to a bit off dirt riding.

Anyone out there had any experience with a 93 RM250? I have the option of buying one.

I heard that the early 90's RM's had a bad engine??
Any truth to this??

Oh yeah its been a while since i have ventured in to the MX bike market. Anything special i should be looking out for? Also What would a fair price for this year be?(only a good Q' for the Aussie members)

Cheers

I had a '92 RM20 and loved it. I believe the motors were similar. Any used bike has to be look over and if you know anyone that could look at it for you you will be ahead of the game. The lower shock bearing wears out fast on that year and if you lift up on the rear of the bike and hear a clunk, it's worn out.

Tasmania,

I have a 98 model and like it very much. It is the same as a 96-98.
These models have showa suspension and conventional forks , and handle quite well. Also , this is the first of the bikes designed by Roger DeCoster...or influenced by him....95 or so is when he took over the mx racing program.

I would assume your bike is based on a 90 or 91 model bike with kyb suspension. With yearly upgrades.

If I were you , I wouldn't go that old ...due to reliability and age issues.
The late 90 model bikes have a pretty good rep on handling and power.

see ya

Its a good bike. It was my first bike. The power band takes some getting used to because its pretty much all midrange and nothing else. It handles really well, most suzukis do.

Issues that I had with it were fussy jetting, and the previous owner had the crankcase seal leak on him twice but that never happened to me and I rode it harder than he did. It would be a good starter bike but if you want to get into racing than you wouldn't want to invest alot into it.

I bought mine in good condition for $1500 and sold it for $1000 a year later. Was having problems with fouling plugs so I dropped the price but the new owner fixed that and has only fouled 1 plug in 8 mos.
