while out riding yesterday i noticed that when had the clutch lever pulled in the bike would still move a little bit. it didnt do this every time i pulled it in but i did notice it was doing this evey once and awhile. my friend told me to change the oil and that might help, what do you guys think? you think its time for a new clutch? i hope not, i blew out my fork seals yesterday too, i kind of low on cash at the moment.

The same thing happened to me a few days ago on my 250f. Some of the steel plates were warped. If you replace the plates, it will fix your problem. A local dealer said the was a common problem on the 250f. You can check your plates by laying them on a good flat suface, you can tell right away if they are warped.

mine will do it big time when the oil is cold (yamalube 10w50) it will slide the front tire on smooth floor

I noticed this same thing on my WR250F. Seemed worse before the bike warmed up. I changed the oil and dialed the clutch in a bit better and all is fine now.

It could also be a notched clutch basket / hub.

On some 250fs Ive been using the CR125 fibres all except for the last one up next to the pressure plate . Weve also been turning down the pressure plate step where the last plate rides. The CR 125 fibres have more surface area to each plate and seem to last longer the inside of the Cr 125 plate is like almost 2mms deeper or wider and holds up better but they still drag . That seperator spring is supposed to help that from hsappening but with CR125 plate you dont use it anymore . THe pessure plates dont last very long on the 250f either but theyre actually pretty cheap from Yamaha#5HD 16351 -00-00 under 20 bucks.Weve been adding some oil holes to plate and inner hub to help circulate oil. Seems to really help alot in MX and Enduros stuff. Hinson & other components have been tried also.

thanks for all your input. this happened when the bike was hot, i didnt do it all the time thought every once and awhile. im going to start by changing the oil and see what happens, if that doesnt do it then ill look into something else.

Most basic of basics. Clutch cable adjustment.
How much play do you have at the lever?
If there's too much, when you pull the lever in your clutch won't completely disengage.

Lonewolf : was it like really hot like after a tight woods section or after a deep mudhole? Sometimes the clutch just gets hot .

Posted by: Lonewolf---------------------

you know what, i was in super tight woods sections at the time, i never thought about that, thanks for bringing that up.
