4-Stroke 250cc

5'10" 240lbs 32yrs old

Looking for a bike to ride up and down pulpwood roads and occasionally over some terraced pasture land and through the woods.

I would like this thing to last a long time on oil changes and filter changes..No 2-strokes for that reason and noise is a factor.

Which is best for this class under these circumstances..

TIA,

Mike

Anybody? anybody?

I have been looking at the XR-250 and the TTR-250...The TTR is a couple hundred cheaper on the website..not sure of actual dealer prices..Honda's generally have a good rep for longevity. Does it hold true for dirt bikes.

Any XR is a solid choice. An XR-250 would be a great bike for you. I personally prefer the XR series over the TTR series of bikes, but thats just a preference. Either way though, it really is virtually impossible to go wrong there

Thanks Porstala.

I learned to ride on an XR-80 and the only street bike I've ever had was a honda also.

I've ridden a couple of YZ's many years ago, but noise limits me to 4-strokes.

I own a 2003 XR-250 and it's a great bike. For the type of terrain you are going to ride I would think about the TTR too. You'll be able to buy the TTR for less and it has electric start. The reason I got the XR is that Iride a lot of tight trails and the XR is a little lighter and has more adjustable suspension. Either way I know you can't go wrong.

Thanks DoubleD

I liked that option of electric start as well.

I have looked at another board and it seems many of its members say generally to skip the 250's because you'll want a 400 in about 2 months..

For a couple of hundred more new, or about the same or less for a good used bike I wonder if I should change my thinking..

It will be a while before I'm able to purchase so I have time to figure it out and hopefully get some ride time on each somewhere.

Thanks again

Mike
