Hey Guys,

I am just getting into this sport and need a little advice and was told this is the place! I am 28, 5'10, 155 lbs. I wanted to know what you all would recommend. I have ridden street bikes for 2 years, have ridden small motorcycles and 3 wheelers as a kid, and am ready to get on the dirt serious style. I have seen many of the posts that say 250's are the "beginner killer," but I don't want to be wanting something I can't get out of a 125. As with most, I would like to scream the tracks and kill the jumps, and have an all around bad a$$ time.

Oh, and what's the difference with the 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke? Which comes with what? Just need a little advice and hope for alot! Thanks in advance.

I'm just like you. I ride street and i just started riding dirt.
the two strokes are mainly race bikes made for competition etc... if you wait a little longer i think the crf 250 would be perfect for you. I dont think you'd have throttle control problems with 2 strokes either though. I got on my brothers new crf 230 and rode it around the block... it's nowhere close to my street bike obviously. So i ended up getting a cr 125 and i love it. I'm about 5'5 a buck 55. Cant really reach the ground but who cares!!!

2 strokes power band jumps in during the mid/high (like how our street bikes really dont move until about 7 grand) the 4 strokes have the low end power and not much mid/ high.

my guess would be the crf250 when it comes out or the cr 250...

I choose a 2-stroke 125 for you and the reason is...
you mentioned screaming on the track and jumping. On a 125 you have to make it scream to do anything plus it's so much lighter that a 250 so throwing it around will be much easier than a 250.
