Transition from Older Bikes

Hey, I've been riding my dads older trial bikes for awhile now and I just need your opinion on this. I've been planning on getting a new bike now for awhile. I've been riding my dads 1974 Honda TL-125(4 stroke trial bike..4.5 hp heh) my dads Yamaha TY-250(2 stroke trails bike..still detuned for trails) and my dads Bultaco Frontera mk11(250 2 stroke cross country bike its a monster..) I feel that I can handle all these bikes fairly well for being 16 and 6'3" My question is if you think i could handle a 1999 YZ-250 or if I should go for the yz250f which is quieter which my mom would like a lot..

I just wanna know if you guys think i could handle a newer hi-tech bike compared to this ancient dinosaur cross country bike. (It does seem though that after riding that Bultaco which i'm sure is over 300 pounds that anything would be easier.

One last thing..How much horsepower do the "modern" Yz-250's make because i'm just wondering if its anywhere near the 35 hp the Bultaco has.

oh, i forgot to mention that the Bultaco is from 1979 heres a pic

think i could handle a newer mx 250 2 stroke after riding that biggun?

and when i was talking about the yamah i meant to say trial, not trail

Oh If you have questions about anything that isnt clear in my complicated tale just ask because I really want a new bike

I almost forgot that a 125 really isnt an option because my dad will want to ride this bike some also and he's not a little guy. He'd really like the yz-250f a lot but its too much money

The hardest thing about the new bikes, for me, was the seat height. If a person can get over this, the rest is natural.

The new bikes are lighter, have better suspension, and more power. I think the power is easier to use.

Not knowing your height and weight makes this difficult to answer. My 15 year old daughter has ridden my YZ 250. She said she would NEVER do it again, but she did survive. No crashes or anything.

Well I'm 16, and 6'3"
The Bultaco that I've got..its seat height i'm sure is higher than a newer bike. It's actuallly difficult to get on it at my height but once your on its fine. The powerband on it is pretty scary. It feels fairly weak until you hit 3rd gear then it rockets, then later on it has an even scarier one in the higher rpms. I'm pretty sure that it could scare most people.

Why dont you try the kdx200/220, there pretty fast, and have a similar broad powerband to that of a 250, just without that hit!

Kinna, it all comes down to how you want to ride your new bike. If you enjoy the smooth power and torque of the trials bikes and tend to do tight technical stuff, then a KDX or a four stroke trail bike might be a good choice.

But if you're tired of the slow stuff and are just itchin' for an adrenalin rush, get the MXer.
