I have posted before and i am narrowing down my choices i am going to buy it used. I am 6ft 130lbs. I am going to be doing trail riding and probably alot of going down to the track. I was thinking of getting the xr250 or the crf230r? what do you think is the better one to get or do you have any other suggestions. And i have never rode a bike.
Thanx
Andrew

If that is your short list I'd go for the XR250. The brakes and suspension is better. It should not to tall for you and the bike is fine for a beginer and you will be able to grow better with as there are more mods out there for it. The aftermarket is pretty strong for them. Also, they will be easier to find on the used market.

can you do jumps with them to and how much would you think a 98-99 be?

Here's the thing-Since you have no or little experience dirt biking you want to make learning as painless as posible.there's an incredible amount to learn in the first 6 months.Just getting comfortale with shifting, braking with your terrain will be fun but a big deal. The more you ride the more confidence in your ability and knowledge of your bike.don't worry about jumping but of the 2 go for the 250.Your size allows you to be comfortable more with a 250.You can go to kelly blue book on the net to check prices and e bay to see what people ask for a 250. the 250 has a good reliable rep.As soon as possible get a service manual and save yourself a lot of money and trouble.

okay, you don't want to go out and do even just a 20 footer with stock suspension an an xr250. you don't want to go out and do that on any xr unless it is modified. but if this is your first time riding i'd say learn the basics with the xr first, then learn the advanced stuff later.

After modifications can the bike handle jumps and where do you know any sites for protective gear i have a helmet from my go-kart.
