Re-considering my choice

Recently I've been thinking about getting a 250 four stroke but then reconsidered once i learned that new four strokes are LOUDER. This was totally unexpected because it seems the total opposite for my three 70's bikes. So now its back to the 4 strokes and I'm trying to deceide between a 250 and a 125. I'm 16 6'3 and was considering a yz250f but after learning more about it i thought it wasnt worth it. Now i'm considering a 125 or even a 250. Do you think I could handle a 2001 250 mx 2 stroke bike? One of the bikes i ride right now is a 1979 Bultaco 250 2 stroke trails bike. This bike is HEAVY.
My main question i suppose is, could i go from a 24 year 250 trail bike to a 2002 250 mx bike with relative ease? (I'm not a stupid rider
)
I deffinatly dont want to get a 125 and outgrow it within a year or so. I may be totally wrong since I dont have much experience on newer bikes but please help me out

If you already know how to ride and have the ability to 'control' yourself and know how to recognize when your getting in trouble then you should be fine. I went from not riding for over 10 yrs to just getting a brand new cr250. Its a beast and scares the crap outta me alot, but as long as you're pretty sensible about what you are doing it is manageable. I really like the 250 2-stroke, but I've also heard great things about the newer 250 thumpers. One thing you hear alot about is not being able to lug around on the 2strokes, but I lug mine plenty in the woods and so far I only fouled one plug, but it was only because I sank the bike in a deep hole, if it werent for that Im sure it would still have the original plug. Pretty much all the newer bikes are freakin' awesome.
What kind of riding are you planning on doing?

I'll be trail riding it around my house for awhile until i'm use to it. Then taking it to the track with my 4 or 5 friends. They arent really trails but dirtroads down through the farm across the street, the gravel pit, and all the huge open roads of the treatment plant back in the woods beside me
Dont worry they all know i'm riding there.

Another bike I would look at is the KDX 200 or 220. I have heard nothing but great things about them and they are also quieter than both a 2stroke 250 or a big thumper. Check out the KDX forum on here. They have a great reputation.

Ah, Now i'm leaning to the KDX even more than anything else. I wanted a mx bike at first but truthfully i'll be riding mostly off-road and this bike looks great for an off-road bike. Much cheaper too. This bike seems like it'd be great for what i want which is mostly off-road(i cant wait until i can go over on the powerlines on a bike newer than 1974, and i'll even have a light!). I cant wait until i get some money
You think a 220 could keep up with all my obnoxious little friends 125s?

What bike would you recommend between all these:
WR250F
vs
CRF250X
vs
KDX220
assuming price doesnt matter
I'll be riding mostly trails. I need to learn more about the WR and CRF

I would get the crf250X. I couldnt wait on it so I got a CR250. Man, I'm just happy to have a bike!
As far as the kdx keeping up with a 125, Im not sure. I know in some trails/woods that the kdx would dominate plus the thing is tough as nails. If your talking about a drag race I couldnt tell ya. Any of the bikes you have mentioned should make you real happy. I think you should research maintainence hassles on the bikes you are interested in and also think about local dealer support and parts availability.
There are just too many great bikes out there man.

Well, the CRF250X if price doesent matter, but do we even know the retail price on the 250X? I would imagine it would be a bit more than the KDX.
I would LOVE the KDX 200 to get for my wife and my occasional trail bike, but I dont think she would be able to handle it so we will probably settle on a CRF-150 or 230.

I was riding with a guy this weekend that was on a crf150 in the trails...I know he could have lost me on that thing.
