YZ450f

I just bought a 2003 yz450f. I am making the move up from an '01 250f. I am pretty sure that even for MX I want a flywheel weight. Leaning towards a 4, but they also offer a 6 and an 8. I really like the smooth power of my 250f and would like to get something similar out of this bike. Any recommendations?

Is there any other mods that I should be thinking of? I ordered stiffer springs for both ends.

If the clutch mod has not been done to the bike, DO IT. It will turn the extremely vague and slightly noisy stock clutch into something extremely accurate and easy to modulate. I did it to my dad's 450 (guinea-pig...) and have my own still stock clutch to compare (only about 10 hours on both) and there is as much difference as you could ever expect.

They only make a 4 ounce weight for the YZ 450f. I just put one on a couple of weeks ago and my bike is alot smoother with the power and it does not try to stall. It is worth the money. I got mine through Doug Dubauch Racing.

Who only makes a 4 oz. weight? Dubach has 4, 6 and 8 (http://www.dubachracing.com/products.asp#flywheel).

Do you think a 6 or 8 ouncer would've been even better or is the 4 just right? Did you install it yourself and were there any complications? Impact wrench or holder?

Thanks for any info. I'm considering one for my YZ.

Dabach only makes a 4 oz for the YZ450F. It takes about 15 min to change in out. You need an impact wrench and a flywheel puller. Dabach racing sends in it two day air. All you have to do is put your old one in the box and send it back to them. They put a $200 dollars charge on your card until they receive the old one back. The weighted fly only cost $89. It is worth the effort to put it on. You will like it.

If you only want around 4 to 6 oz weight go with the Factory GYTR 5oz flywheel weight as mentioned above by Blueforever. It cost half as much and you still have your original flywheel incase you want to go heavier or back to stock. I believe mine was $98.

Thanks for all of the input. I went with the put on the 4 oz. Dubach weight. Looking forward to a test ride this week. I noticed the coughing, a lot more than my 250f, but I figured I could straighten it out with jetting. Has everyone had good success cleaning up the cough with the BK mod?

Also, just an FYI, when I talked to the lady at Dubach Racing I asked her if I could get a pipe also. She said that they didn't have one because they were in the process of moving the production from Pro Circuit to Doug's own plant. Doug wanted control of the quality of his pipes and the location they were manufactured. Dubach should have their own pipes for 450's back on the market in a month or so.
