Forest fire pictures

Here are some pictures of a fire that started early saturday morning by a lightning strike. Luckily it is on the opposite side of the lake of where about 99% of the population lives. Currently there is around 47 homes on evacuation alert, and it seems the fire is blowing back on its self. It hasn't grown over night despite the strong winds. Its current size is 1100 hectares (2700 acres) The entire valley is filled with smoke and visibilty around the fire is basically zero. Pics HERE

That's one hell of a fire.

Reminds me of the Missionary Ridge fire we had last year, Mother Nature can be very awesome, very depressing too.

At least it wasn't some bozo throwing down a cigarette.

Update: the fire doubled in size in less than a day. 1000 homes on evacuation alert, and the winds are fanning the fire directly towards a small town. Size is now 2800 hectares and growing.

There's also a large forest fire just south of Cache Creek which has evacuated people from the Venebals Valley region, I drive through it every day. Yesterday it had consumed 6400 hectares already and growing. All started from a spark of grinding train wheels on the tracks. I took a few pics while driving through, all taken in the same approximate area, ~11 hours apart.

In the last picture the sun was almost up and there wasn't a cloud in the sky, it was that dark from the smoke, like driving through heavy fog.

The fire is extremely close to a popular riding area and I'm not sure if it's burnt up or not yet.

I fixed the link, sorry about that. The fire is now 11000 hectares, yes, 11 thousand! It is gowing VERY quickly and they are predicting strong winds for tonight. Cam, the BC government has put a voluntary ban on backcountry recreation, but they will soon make it manditory if the conditions don't get better, which means no more riding.
