This thread is mainly for Rich, and the others that knew what the "Whirricane" was. Look what we found (and fixed). Viola! No more whirring!

And, just in case we have our terminology incorrect, here is the clutch part we are still needing if you have one:

Yep, the problem was that there was a white arrow and a white X rattling around in there. But we got rid of them!

Lou, you look to be a bit low on oil too!

I forgot to explain what was going on. The shifter doohickey, "X", came off the roller thingamajig and was pushed outward about 1/8", rubbing the backside of the clutch outer basket. That's why it would stop when Jamie pulled out on the basket (you could hear the noise even just kicking it over by hand). Since it was pushed downward (it was still half way on top of the roller before we played with the shift lever, totally dislodging it), my guess is that a hunk of the original clutch basket that fragged itself got wedged in there or got pushed through the area at a high rate of speed, causing it to come off the roller. Amazing what taking a few months off from wrenching on a bike does for clarity, eh?!

Glad to hear you guys got that cleared up!!
I think I have a clutch hub for that motor.... Will let you know Monday!

I have a couple of spare inner hubs too so we can cover you Jamie.

Glad that is mystery is solved, Lou!
The first time I disasssembled my 426 there was a depository of machining swarf hidden behind the kickstart shaft.
No wonder there was never a "clean" oil change.

Thanks Rich! All this so Pred can have a bike to get spanked on in the COTT race!
Of well, my bikes are used to getting that treatment.

Jamie - PM me an address for shipping and I'll shoot the hub out to you.
