Since we both are of an opinion that if one waits for the "perfect" day to ride... one doesn't get a lot of riding in, my riding pard Lorin and I have made it a habit to meet at least weekly to get a couple hours of woods riding in. We have done a few Thursday evenings after work over the summer, and fairly regular Sunday rides. Sometimes its been hot... sometimes dusty... and sometimes the dirt has been perfect! A couple of Sundays back, we met at 7:00 to beat the heat. A heavy dew had soaked in to turn the trails into that sandy loam that hooks up so well. Turned into one of the funnest rides I've been on. Next time out it was hot dusty and miserable. We were on a short trail I like to call the Bobsled run. This is about a mile and a half of high banked curves with some ledges to hop off of as well. BSwift will remember this one..it's the one where I rear ended you when you stalled. There is one part where you have to use momentum to stick to the high side of a bank to avoid the eroded canyon on the left. This gully is about 2 feet wide and 6 or 8 feet deep. I came around the corner leading into it in time to see the ugly ending to Lorin's line choice. Over the bars, into the ditch he went. I stopped and asked "Why did ya do that?" Lorin just rolled around and made noises. He survived and thought it would be a good time to quit. Today found us riding in a lot of water and sand, mud, and rain. Slimy conditions, but we still got in 25 miles or so. I figure riding in any conditions is better than not riding at all. Anyone wanna join us holler.

Yep, Butch is turning into quite the woods rider. As he said, we rode in some very wet condition yesterday, but managed to have quite a bit of fun. I would usually stop right after the big puddles to see if Butch might provide a bit of entertainment, but he managed to save the bike (although barely) each of the times, thus keeping me from my favorite form of entertainment. Amazingly enough, the closest he came to falling was when we were stopped and he was walking \ skiing backwards down a muddy hill. Through some vigorous wind-milling and suprising dexterity, he managed to keep from falling face first in the muddy hillside.

How's it looking for the Crosstimbers, this year?
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there.
