cr450f Compression

I have an 02 CR450f with about 15 hours on new rings. Last ride it became hard to start, and the copmression test came up 40 psi. I find it hard to belive the rings and valves could be that bad all of a sudden. I have heard about the auto decompression adjustment. Could my comression lever be stuck open? The cable moves freely, but when it is open i get 30 psi. Any suggestions?

Cable? There is no cable that I know of on the auto decomp. mechanism.

Did you check your valve clearance?

I think you mean the "hot start" cable...the compression release is fully automatic and completely contained inside the valve cover.

I don't know that you can get a valid compression test with a motor that has an auto-decompressor.
