XR50 Wanted.

I know, I know...me and everybody else! Anyway, I'm in the Kansas City area. Prefer a stocker, this is for my 5 year old...at least for now.

I'll sell you my hot rod '03 for $1400. It might be a bit much for a 5 year old though.

As fun as it looks, I better hold out for one a little more tame. Sounds like a fair price though for the mods. Do you still have the stock springs and stuff?

Posted by: oldguy---------------------

Scott, Julius is delivering a new XR50 for my son at dirtweek and as soon as he gets it we are putting in heavier springs so the stock springs will be available more then likely.
If thekid had the money he would probably take JPs hotrod and sell you his new one but he just scraped together the $ for this one

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

I still have the front springs, but the rear shock is gone. I replaced it with a Paioli shock that's been sprung for a 200 pound rider.

Julius,

So what all does the bike have for mods? You're peaking my interest. Or shoot me a link to it if it's already online.

Scott

Your not the only one.

Mods so far:

Takegawa E-Series 81cc big bore with race cam and XR70 carb
Paioli rear shock sprung for 200 pounder
PRC triple clamp with 9 inch rise BMX bars and CR throttle, Sunline brake perch and lever
Bling bling gold chain

I haven't done anything else to it. I bought it new in December. I've ridden it in my driveway more than anywhere else, but I have raced it once. I run Mobil 1 red cap in it, and change it every two or three rides. The rear tire is pretty worn, but new Dunlop 756 knobbies are only 22 bucks.

It's only been ridden by a little old man on Sundays.

BTW, I don't really want to sell it, but I need the cash.

So how radical is it, seriously? I mean, I could certainly limit the carb or something right? My 5 year old is a pretty big kid, almost big enough for the PW80, but not quite. And has been riding with no training wheels since 3, rides mtn. bike trails with me, etc.

Do you have ANY of the stock parts that will go with it? Bars, etc.? It appears you kept the stock seat, which is cool.

Scott-If you put the stock throttle on, it has an adjustable stop, or you can cut some 1/4" copper tubing and put inside the carb between the cap and the slide to limit how much throttle can be applied. Al did this on the XR70 he got for his oldest boy.

Thanks Lou, I forgot you had Little Ricky! I did see an '02 for $900, stock, in the paper I may look at.

Hey Scott. I LIve in KC to and couldn't find a fiddy anywhere! (That's NEW or used. ) I finally tracked one down out in St. Joseph and took a nice Saturday drive down there. They had a stock 2003 for about 1049 (No extra fees) and a hopped up one for $1450. I ended up buying the super xr50! You say it's for your kid but, trust me, you'll be putting plenty of set time on that beauty. I took it out to the Blue river trails (for mtn bikes) and never had so much fun. And it's hard to believe that little bitty thing could pull so hard. I say go for the Julius pleaser ride and put a throttle limiter on it for your kid and take it off when you saddle up!

Posted by: Scott in KC---------------------

That's funny...are you talking about Minor Park? I ride mtn. bikes there frequently and have to admit I had taken my XR650L through there a few times long ago. I have seen some motorcycle tracks in there from time to time...too funny. I'm sure all the greenies love that, like it's some kind of a nature sactuary...I'm always affraid of finding a body out there!!

So what did your have for $1450 and was it new?

Julius, are you running the stock pipe?

And, how reliable are these big bore kits? Parts available?

I have some buddys making Dirt Week, but I won't be there. They could take delivery of something for me though.

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

I've had no trouble out of my kit. It seems to be very high quality. Parts are readily available. Takegawa is a highly respected Japanese tuner/manufacturer of hot rod Honda pieces. They even make a DOHC head for the small Hondas.

I'm running a modified stock pipe. It's still quiet, but it flows much better than the unmodified stocker.

Scott, Tree. . . are you guys still interested?

Posted by: Scott in KC---------------------

My wife sort of put the kabosh on the idea, but I'm thinking of getting one anyway...covertly ofcourse. $1400 is going to be out of my range though. I figured you would have moved it at Dirt Week for sure.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------
