Who was the most/least like you expected?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: nikki---------------------

I did this thread after DW02 and remember getting a lot of good responses. I think my "most like I expected" was Natalie and my "least like expected" was Elk last year.

This year, Red and I were fortunate enough to get the DirtWeek 2003 holeshot Saturday morning at 9am - the gates were locked and I think Kris was in bed. Thump was second around the first turn and I think I took a nap after that and can't remember who was 3rd. Anyways... we spent 8+ awesome days at DW and got so meet SO MANY great people... what a week!!

Most like I expected - Lori KTM - always smiling and volunteering to convert people to woods riders

Least like I expected - KiwiBird - I didn't know what to expect from Kiwi after a loooong ride with Elk (and a fuel "situation") but what a cool dude - thanks for sharing all those photos with me Kiwi!

And a few more:

Best camp fire entertainment: Milk, Crash, Dale, (Lou I heard the fiddy but was too sleepy to look out the window)

Best camp fire wood getter: Cam

Funniest fiddy entertainment: Blackhawk!

Most jacked up bike: Dale

Most jacked up front fender/bumper (bike/truck): Crash

Most evil chili cook-off participant: VD

Best chef: Eddie and Natty

Non-stop smiles: Squeaky girl

Best birthday cake ever: Oldguy

Sentenced for life: Milk's Christy

COTT hero: PK

Cutest couple: Thump & HotPants; Eddie & Red

Favorite Wal-Mart buddy: JP

Coolest camp decor: JP's ex-wife

Cutest red panties: Mick

Head cold life saver: Mully

Awesome Families: Philip, Ann & Josh; Zoomers; MX-727 & clan; the Gomer/Lori crew; Okie & crew

Best Tag Team MX partner: Brownie (it's 2 laps!)

Toughest break: Whyzee, Lola & Aryn - heal up soon and hope to see you guys next year

Biggest teddy bear: Pred

Best gear: TheKid (nice space suit), Okie (nice tutu), JP (nice bunny ears), Tigger (nice helmet), Mick ( )

Lucky dogs: Solo, Dead

Best attitude on broken bones: Tarakar

Best Giddy Giddy: Elk (and Aimee too)

I could go on and on and on............

JP was the least like I had expected, and also one of the funniest guys I met. The way he just is funny without trying to be is, well, funny. But the one with the most comical personality was VD fo sho.

Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------

I gotta say Red was least like what I expected.  I barely got to say hi last year and he didn't seem to talk much, I thought he was the "quiet" type.  Well this year sure was different!!!!  Man, you really came out of your shell dude!  You kept me in stitches all week long with facial expressions, outbursts, goofiness, and sheer comedic excellence!!!   :thumb:  I put you right up there on the same pedestal I put MILK on when it comes to bringing a smile to the face, buddy!  I can see Nik-dog needs to keep you in line much like Christy does for MILK.

Another one fo sho was the Extraterrestrial  Badass himself.....The PRED!!  Not sure what I was going to see when Jamir and Cam showed up with you.  Was kind of expecting someone who was a little on the shy side.  I can't imagine how you escaped meeting any other DRN members for the past 3 years or so, but I imagined it to be someone who did not handle social situations very easily.....WRONG!!!  You're a big huggy Teddy Bear who just happens to be partial to camo. Makes killer cocktails too.  Well, nuf said that I haven't already told you using the /TO feature in chat

DEAD was pretty much what I expected.  Young kid, full of bright eyed excitement and a little piss'nvinegar on the side.  I was really glad to see you win the Ma'amba, you deserve it for wanting it so badly.

Beef706 was also somewhat of a solid choice on "what I expected".  Seasoned, burly, jovial and plenty of good nature.  It was really great to meet you!

LoriKTM and OffRoadWarrior:  I always thought peeps from New York unapproachable, but you two left this really great, warm impression on me.  I absolutley LOVED riding the trials bikes with you.   You remind me a lot of Karna&Justin, two people I have a lot of respect for and who I love hanging out with.  I was always happy to see you two around the campfire or to share a glass of that really great NY wine with.

CAM - I never would have pegged you for a trampoline jumper, but you go boy!!!

Philip was pert near what I expected.  The Cajun accent fit PERFECTLY!  Aiiiieeeee!!!

I'm sure I will think of more as they come to mind.

Can I be after Stan?

I LOVE NATALIE !!!

git n gallup chick don't know sheit

Posted by: Dapper---------------------

Pretty much everyone was more than I expected. Friendlier and much more comfortable with me than I was with them. I'm just a little weird that way but, I'll be a lot better next year. I kept thinking to myself "I can't believe how nice everyone is".
Now that I think of it. I was the least like what I thought I would be. I didn't ride as much as I thought, I didn't mingle as much as I should and I was a lot more shy (I guess) than I am. Must have been the noobie jitters. Watch out for next year, maybe the real Dapper will show up

That's because most of us are not from New York City

I think it's because you live too close to New Jersey

Posted by: Jamir---------------------

I was a lot cooler than I ever expected me to be.

and quieter

Posted by: BunduBasher---------------------

Patman - a really nice fellow - looks good with clothes on too

SR KX Rider - the last time we met he looked like he just arrived from the Harley Dangerous Convention - This time I had to look for lil Eric to figure out the shaved and respectable Dad

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Least Like I expected: Red and Nikki! Last year, they showed up on Thursday, parked behind Okies land yacht, and met all of two people. This year, Nik said they were coming for the whole week and were gonna meet everyone! Sho nuff, they were there when I got in Saturday morning and they really busted out of their shells big this year. *Sniff, I'm so proud of you two! Red and Milky were like long lost brothers (or lovers...) Goofin' it up all week. And Jenny, too! She's come out of her shell and stepped up her riding in a big, big way. Last year all I got was a smug nod when I asked her if I was holding her up during the daytime poker run! lol

Everyone else was pretty much like I expected. After all the time I've spent with so many of you, either online or in person, I pretty much knew what to expect. Class acts all around.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

I was disappointed that SrKXRider didn't make it. When I got back home and online he was talking as if he were there! Sumbich knew I didn't recognize him and never told me who he was!

I was also surprised that Zio didn't enjoy me riding behind him as much as I did.

Posted by: Thump---------------------

Yeah Red and Nik-dog came to play this year. It was good to see you guys having fun.

SKR was a bit different this year... barely saw him at DW01, never really spoke to him. This year he and Eric were camped right next to me and it was really cool getting to know him better. He's one of the good guys. Not to mention he shaved his mullet and lost like 60 lbs since DW01. Almost dint recognize him.

Posted by: Philip---------------------

The Cajun accent fit PERFECTLY! Aiiiieeeee!!!

Mais I aint got no ak scent no!!

I thought everyone was great! I felt right at home with all the great hospitality and friendly people. I was suprised by Red and Big Lou. I figured Red to be more reserved and Big Lou to be more outgoing. Both you guys are great. I thank all of you who don't have kids who made Josh feel like part of something special. That is unusual for younger couples without children. Randy I think you made a friend for life. Nikki thanks for all the activities with the kids you are a special person. Eddie & Aimee were really cool. Nat thanks for waking me up to meet me, I'll get ya back next year. We plan to spend more time at the campfire next year, seems like thats were all the fun was. Everyone we met was just great. Take care til next year. :thumb:

This list will be added to as the fog lifts and I remember more!

Posted by: dead---------------------

GETMETOCA, talk about a great personality. And such a good heart. It made me feel good just talking to you the whole 5 minutes I did.

ZIO, what can I say. Didn't really get formally introduced but we share a strong bond(or loose I guess). COLON BLOW!!!

Elk, Wrench, Solo, Rooster, Motometal, Gomer, Kiwi Bird, Smitty, Patman, BSwift, everyone in Camp Tejas... man, everyone was so great.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

My numero uno least expected was Big Lou. First off, I expected him to be much larger. I also expected him to be much more outgoing, you can't shut him up in chat yet I really had to poke and prod to get him chattin around the fire.

I also don't really know what I expected when I met Pred, but I didn't expect what I got! What a great guy, good personality, very friendly, and so very unscary! I think the name XRPredator made me think you were scary!

I honestly can say that no one was really like I expected. I already knew that DRN people are great, but I was not expecting them to be the most gracious, friendly people. From rides to and from the airport, to blankets, to food, and parts for my bike everyone was there to help. No one was thinking about themselves.

Oh yeah, one more...Zio is much younger than I expected him to be!

Hey now, that cuts deep.

I'm glad to say that everyone was what I thought; good people who love riding and meeting/talkin' with others who feel the same.

Ditto those sentiments exactly! I was beginning to think Nikki was engaged to a mute. Boy was I wrong! Reddog is like Billy-funny, everything he does seems to be hiliarious without even trying. And so well trained by Nik, he fetches shoes and everything! Thanks Red!

Same for Predatater. He looked like I expected him to but I thought he was going to be shy and freaked out by all the people and attention, but he just fit right in! So glad to finally have met him and call him a friend.

I had already met most of the people there this year, but I did get to know some better and as usual I'm disappointed I didn't meet more new people.

Posted by: Patman---------------------

For some reason I thought Pred would be taller

At least no one introduced themselves to me this year and concluded by saying "...and man, I thought "zio" was a chick". I must be doing something right.

I agree with Patman, Pred could have been a bit taller. I did rather enjoy seeing those tiny 7 oz beers in his hand... until I realized they were mini-beers.

Gomer, it wasn't that I didn't enjoy the bike-hump, it's just that Oldguy had already done it & the newness had worn off. He lasted longer, too.

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

I been thinkin' on this for quite some time. I'd have to say everyone (including myself) was far different than I expected! I figgered people would want to see me, but I thought it'd be of the stare and point from a distance variety. From Jamie and Cam at the airport, to Nat and Aimee when I got to camp, to everyone else, I did not figure I would be accepted into the fold so quickly. Thanks to all for makin' it a great time for me.

Oh, I almost forgot: Wes was exactly as I expected him! If I ever get to the ABQ, we are gonna tear it up, my friend! And my wife still doesn't own a liquor store!

I LOVE Red.

I love everyone else too.

DAMNIT!

Posted by: motometal---------------------

squeakygirl, you've got a lot of heart.  If you approach your work anything like you do riding, your boss is lucky to have you on board.

I met a lot of great people, but also just got to spend time with those I met in the past.  Didn't meet anyone that I didn't like, well except maybe myself a time or two.

Posted by: whyzee---------------------

I never got to meet Tony, Stan, VD or Zio. I wish I had.

Pred... we are going to tell lots of lies when we get together next year.

Jeff G, I was expecting a Toby Keith kinda guy, but found a greater man! Thanks for the helping hand. Next year I'll be better on the guitar and we'll play a few tunes.

Sarge, wack job. but I expected it.

Nikki, for being so fast (on a bike), i found your calm and patience to be amazing.

Nat, you are so cool. I'll hold your hand next year and we'll walk camp and say hi to everyone. Mary Ann's looking for that woods ride as soon as she gets well.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more, everyone was friendly and warm, CAL, man I wish we could have hooked up! That is one nice bike.

Posted by: Senior KX Rider---------------------

All were pretty much as I expected though I was a overwhelmed by the fiendliness and hospitality from Camp Tejas. You guys rock. I felt right at home the first time I visited. Special thanx to Dave (Txbigguy) for the time and effort put into The camp tejas chow hall. Excellent food. Also Tony Eeds and Brian Swift. The work you put into DW deserves a huge pat on the back. It was great to meet so many of the DRN personalities that I had not met and see all the ones that I had met again. What a community Can't wait to do it again. My son is still rambling on about all the young people he met and asks when we will ride with them again. DirtWeek is all the things that lifetime memories are made of for the little ones as welll as the adults. Eric is still talking about Zio, you made an impression on the little guy Jeff. Great to finally meet you.

Sorry I didn't get to meet you Gomer I have heard so much about you.

After I came over and talked to you when you first arrived, the confused look on your face made me think I should ask you if you knew who I was. Its amazing the change that a haircut, shave, and and dropping 55 lbs can have on ones appearance. It has been a couple years since I had seen you too.

Posted by: Kav---------------------

Zio was about the only one I was dead right about, as for evey one else, well I had spent all my brain power on figuring out Zio so I had no clue for any one else (save for BigLou, he was pretty close to what I had expected come to think of it)

Lesser men have been driven insane doing just such a thing!

Senior definitely wins the "Most Changed" award this year. When I saw you at Wardy's, I was a little confused, too.

That was a world-class mullet you had at DW01. :thumb:

Posted by: VintageDirt---------------------

Actually, I think I was the least like I expected. I only fell down once and Mr. Maico didn't kill me. Although he did turn my arms into overcooked spaghetti in only three laps. I owe Okie a huge debt of gratitude for vetoing the 5 laps for the "C" class.

Posted by: BEEF706---------------------

(sorry the reply is so late, no network at school this week) Most like I expected, VD wait that's cheating since I already met him, so it's a tie between Natalie (warm and gracious and what a cook!) and Pred was about what I expected, the guy cracks me up. Least like I expected, maybe Milk, I don't really know how anyone could be prepared for the first time meetin that guy, and Lou was a lot quieter than I expected, but I did arrive after the infamous fitty incedent, so maybe he was recooping. All in all I must say I was truly suprised at how welcoming everyone was when I crashed the DW party for the first time. Oh, and whataya mean Zio isn't a chick are ya sure?

Posted by: zio---------------------

SKR, you've got yourself a neat kid. Tell him I was going to eat him on the last day, but accidentally ate another boy instead. Next year, I'll be more careful.

Posted by: Senior KX Rider---------------------

I think you made yourself a friend there Zio. Eric still talks about you

Posted by: ksp---------------------

Dr. D. was the most like I expected, bad to the bone , just like always.

Well, I'm a day late and a dollar short for this one...Thank you! I try to approach my work like I do my riding...but sometimes it's too difficult for me to keep my head outta chat!
