Hey, I am interested in starting to ride dirt bikes (I live in the Santa Clarita Valley area, where it's sort of a big culture, so we have plenty of places to ride, and probably some trails). I am going to get a dirt bike for my birthday (February 1, I actually turn 15). My dad's price range is probably around $1500-$2500 (Not sure, I'll ask, but that's what I'm assuming). We are looking to get a used bike.
-I am 15
-I weigh ~180 pounds
-I am about 5'10" tall, and will probably be 6'1" or 6'2" in a while.
-I have no prior experience with dirt biking.

What bike should I get? I want some good power, but without being too hard to handle. I am pretty strong, so I can (hopefully) handle a bike well. I have heard good things about KDX bikes, if you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

Alright, che?
I've heard a lot about the KDX as well, but where I live no one owns one. I would recommend a XR250. That's the bike I started on. They have enough power and are also quite light. Plus, really low maintenance. For an idea of pricing, my mate got a 2001 model for £2500, with hardly any miles on it. I got my 94 for £950.
Good luck in your decision!

I would look at some used 125's. The KX and RM have a little more bottom end power for trails than the others. If you can, try out a few before you decide to see what you like.

Im 15 with the exact diminsions as you. I have a 1997 Kawasaki KDX220 and love it. Its light, powerful and as fast as you will ever need to go. Any Questions Email me at STIHLCuttinGrass@aol.com or on AIM.

A KDX would deffinetly be a good bike. If your riding mainly trails and such, the KDX would be the way to go.

If you are going to want to be riding at tracks, and jumping the bike, your going to want a KX. It would be a lot faster, and when buying used, you would be able to find a KX for much cheaper than a KDX. And even if you are riding trails, I see people ride KX's in the trails all the time and do fine.

Whao, no espirience on a KX or RM! Maybe modified so it will pass the emisions test and be more forgiving on the learning side. They are good bikes though that have some top but can still rip in the trails.

I'd go with the KDX if your going to be 6'1" and weigh 180. The 200 will have more top end than the 220. I'm not extremely familar with the Santa Clarita Valley area so whats it like? If theres more open runs but with trails too you might look into the KTM line esp. the MXC's.
