Ok I'm 15, about 6'0 and 245lbs, really strong yet still overweight. But anyway, I havbe been riding quads a good bit. Thinking about practicing and starting to race. I don't want a new bike for my first.

As of now (unless someone says otherwise) its more of a dillema between sizes. Some say I will be fine for learing on a 125 and it will still haul pretty well. Others say just go for the 250. Although I don't want to be overthrown and have tough learning on the 250, I don't want to get bored with the 125. I thought of a KTM 200 but can never find any used. So I was thinking a 125 or 250 from one of the main 4 (S,Y,H,K). And BTW I want a 2 stroke, for price and I can work on 2strokes much easier.

Thanks in advance,

-Zach

Well your way too heavy to be competitive on a 125. It's going to depend more on your goals. I ride a 125 and am similar in weight and while I would never compete on a 125 it can haul me around as fast as I ever need to go. If you want to buy a bike and keep it for a bit but still have a chance to be competitive you are going to have to start with a 250 2 stroke (steep learning curve). If you weren't determined to go 2 stroke I would suggest a 250 4 stroke might be the ideal compromise.

I would reccomend a 250 for you at that height and weight. I'm your age but only 5'7 - 115 lbs and I ride a KX 125. You being over twice my weight and taller than me, I would reccomend the 250. After some time, you should be able to tame the beast that is a 250

go with a 250 you will be very disappointed with a 125 because they are weak. i weigh 150 and started out on quads. the quads power arent just like the bikes thou.
a blaster 200 is comparable to a 125. youve got to learn throttle control on whatever, so start with something that you will use the throttle on like a 250. you would have to keep a 125 wide open just to get it moving and you will be wasting your money because you wont learn how to use the throttle. In the end it will only lead to a abused 125 that burns up clutches. a 250 4stroke is equal to a 125 2 stroke. dont let anyone talk you into it. a kdx 200 or 220 would be a good bike to learn on unless you just have to get there faster thats were the 250 would come in.
just because I said the word faster doesnt mean to jump to a 250. you will learn to respect the 250 wereas you will not even like ridding if your stuck on a 125. Ill sell you a GASGAS 300 thats really sweet and will tote you along at an alarming rate if you like the word fast.
good luck. the beginning of the fun starts when you start shopping!

XR250 no older than 00. your a big boy and will need a bit more tractor power!!! With your weight I'd have your spring's (front & rear) upgraded right from the start. The MX250 two stroke power might be a bit much for your skill level.

Look at a good used CR or KX 500 with a flywheel weight. My riding buddy has 2 stepsons that rode quads and switched to bikes 2 years ago. At the time they were 13 and 15 years old and had never ridden bikes. He bought the 15 y/o who is 5'10 260 a WR-250 and the 13 y/o who is 5'8 220 a YZ-125. After 6 months both needed new bikes. They both are on 500's now and comment that they are easier for them to ride because they fit their size better because both are big kids. I also ride a 500 and am 6'1 260. This was my first bike since I quit riding in 1990 and I felt it was very easy to handle because of my size and the fact all of the 250's I rode of my friends felt small and that I really had to rev them. While I know some on here will disagree with me about this choice I suggest you try to find someone who has a 250 and 500 to compare the feel and power of the 2 bikes before you buy.
