My Son has out grown his KX85 and I looking at getting him a new bike. I ride the local enduro series and one desert race a year. Iv'e taken him on a few beginer enduros. We never ride moto cross. Not that I have anything against it, it's just to far away. I have no experience with GasGas. My brother rides a KTM200 and it just seems a little big. My son is 150Lbs and 5'4". Is the 125EC just a moto cross bike with lights or does it have a wide ratio tranny and fly wheel weight? It seems to cost quite a bit. Is it worth it or should I just get a RM125 and set it up for enduros? Any advive would be appreciated.
Thanks Jim

Bull,
I ride a GasGas EC200 and totally love it. I"ve never rode a GasGas EC125 so I can't really give the little EC a fair shake. The 200 motor is very smooth with little hit. For a 200 it has really good lowend. It will lug down low and pull hard with VERY little abuse to the clutch. I"m 5'11 @ 190, and it will move my rather large frame with no problem. The key here is smoooooth motor. The ego's of the little Gas'er should fit your son really good. My 200 uses a 6 spped tranny with a pretty low 1st gear. I know the 125 EC has a 6 speed also. The 200 has a little flywheel which seems wieghted perfect for the little reving motor.

With all GasGas bikes you get, a very tight turning frame, Excel rims, mag hub/engine cases, FMF pipe/FMF S/A or a very well matched Messicio pipe w/ FMF S/A. Zokes or Ohlins forks, Ohlins shock, hyd clutch (VERY LIGHT LEVER PULL) over sized front disc. The bike are spec'ed very well. If you look at the cost of converting a jap MX'er for offroad/enduros you'll be into it for about the cost of a GasGas.

Checkout www.smackovermotorsports.com go to the talking smack section, there you'll find more GasGas info.

Hope that helps..

It depends on what part of the country you are riding, but I would suggest the XC/DE unless your out east. The EC has a heavier flywheel and lower compression which can be a detriment or asset.

Great bike though either way, very durable, well suspended, turn in is great and perfect ego's for your son. Worst case scenerio you can lower it.

I'm on my 3rd GG and love it.

Thanks for the advive. Might be to much pressure showing up with the gasgas.
Got a few weeks to decide.
Thanks Jim

One of the great things about the bike is his ability to grow into it from a riding ability perspective. After 30+ years of riding it's the best 2 smoke in the business in my opinion.

OK,OK so my opinion could be worthless!

hi jim, i lost my "reply", so,... i've lots of experience with both ec and mc versions- the ec125 is "woods" tuned, with a softer, less aggressive ignition(stator and cdi are different), softer springs and less compression(diff. piston and head)- this makes for an easier bike to ride, offroad, in typical enduro-trail conditions. the ec is still plenty quick(i found myself at the same lap times on it as on my xc300). most people who've ridden gas gas bikes will find them to be incredibly quick handling in the woods; the ec125 is better yet, mostly due to it's lighter weight and smaller chassis. the bike is very fast when properly setup, and it's design (internally) is very similar to a current yz125- parts are totally interchangable with the mc125, if you ever want to "tune" it up. it's still got a 6 speed trans., and the lightest pull hydraulic clutch,too- basically, it's a very well finished enduro bike, that comes completely finished from the factory, with no need to buy extra parts, other than handguards,... so that is why they're more expensive. i'm very biased(obviously) on gassers, and the rm is a great bike too, but i've found that it's better in the long run to get a bike "designed" to be an offroad racer, rather than to convert a jap. mx'er- with this thought, the ktm is a really nice bike, too! goodluck with your decision, jack
