Fuel problem with CRF450

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Went riding today. Several times I tried climbing hills, my bike bucked from loss of fuel, like I'd left the gas off (but I hadn't). Once it totally died with the throttle wide open, the other time it bucked, then continued on up the hill. No obvious answers, choke is off, fuel line doesn't appear to be pinched.

Any ideas?

Sounds like trash floating around in the bowl of the carb, but I would expect it to happen on flat ground, too. If you're talking fairly steep hills, then it could be a float level problem.

Maybe it's crap floating around in your fuel tank. Won't cost anything to check that out.

Thanks guys, I'll check out both later in the week and let you know what I find...

More likely than crap in your tank is a clogged fuel screen in the petcock. Just an afterthought.

Sounds like the float level isn't set properly. Check the level and see if that cures your problem.

Drained the gas tank, and checked/cleaned the fuel screen as well. Everything looks to be ok so far. Still need to pull the carb and check the float. Maybe tomorrow...
