Lowering ride height of a 450F

I've heard (not confirmed) that some of Yamaha's factory riders are lowering the rear ride height of the bike by aprox. 1" without changing the overall lenght of travel or the shock speed ratio as it travels through the stroke. If the is true, how would this be accomplished? Being a short guy, I like the thought of doing this.
