Help me out with parents!!

Okay, i just got grounded for 2 weeks for listening to 50 cent and having 2 email addresses. My parents still want to scan all my emails and be like watching me like a hawk. I alos got busted for listening to 50 cent while working out. I told them it was just motivational music, as the CD was labeled. Now, they making me go to bed at 9;30 for the next two weeks, they are gorunding me from going anywhere, and they dont trust me worth crap. What should i do do get back in good shape with them, cuzz all i ever want is a dirtbike really basly, so badly i cant explain, l just love this sport it is so freking awesome. one question, WOULD YOU GROUND YOUR KID IF THEY WERE LISTENING TO 50 cent?? I THOUGHT IT WAS A LITTLE HARSH.

If I had told them not to and they disobeyed then yes I would ground them.

Part of doing as they say is learning to respect authority. Whether you agree with the rule or not, do not break it. You can talk to them intelligently and try to get them to change their mind but you do not just break a rule b/c you do not agree with it. That is disrespectful.

Once you are an adult and on your own you can listen to whatever you want and do whatever you want that is legal. All the parents are doing now is trying to show you that there are rules and consequences for violating those rules. Whatever your opinion of the rule is is irrellevent at this point in time.

Are your parents related to mine by any chance. My dad and I were sitting around sometime back, remembering old time, and he kinda laughed. He said he figures I spent something like 1/3 of every year in high school grounded.

Lilsten to your parents, stay ungrounded. I wish I would have figured that out a long time ago.

Believe it or not, I have the 50 cent CD. I've heard all the lyrics on it, and no I wouldn't let my kid listen to it if he were in his teens. You'll have the rest of your life to make your own decisions. For right now though, Mom & Dad call the shots. I'm sure you've heard this before, but you'll appreciate what they're doing when you're older.

2 Live Crew was the rap group every kid wanted to listen to when I was a kid. I had a cassette tape of it until my parents found out. They promptly took it away from me. At the time I had the same attitude you're showing now. Now that I'm older I appreciated them having rules and guidelines for me to follow while growing up. They've made my life as an adult a whole lot easier by teaching me that there are rules that exist that you may not like, but are EXPECTED to follow.

Realize that as long as you live under your mom and dad's roof, you are subject to their rules. You may not like them or think their fair but your parents do what they do because they love you and want you to grow up and succeed in life.

To get back good with them: obey them, don't back talk, clean your room when asked (the first time), let them know where you're going and call if you're gonna be late. Just put yourself in their shoes and realize that it's for you're own good.

What you did by having the 2 email addresses is show your parents that they cant trust you. You have to earn that trust back and it usually doesn't come easy.

OK, I was a rebel as a teenager. Fortunately I can't remember much about there being bad music then (the 80's, maybe Frankie, or Pat Bentar was it - rap then was cool and funky !) - Our TV, movies, books, and radio as well as music was censored - which meant no porn, bad music, and no bad audio visual stimulation - thankfully I had a dirtbike !

Anyway, now that I am here and we live in a different world/country, as a parent, I do not allow my boy or his friends to have or play 'bad' music in the house - OK, he is only 10, but the precedent is already set. The 10 year old neighbor listens to Eminem, Nelly etc, and I am not going to have it played in my house. I like Eminem (think he is a genius), but do not think his music and that of many others is appropriate for minors. (OK, I am getting old).

The bottom line is, respect your parents, the rules are there not only for their comfort or peace of mind, but your well being as well. Doing things behind their backs will not only make them angry and distrust you, but will probably have a negative impact down the line, like limiting your activities, or losing privileges around the house. If you are worried about being spied on, then rather not use the home computer for surfing or email. Check out the thread where a father was taken to court because his kid downloaded some bad material, or the parents that are paying out thousands of dollars in fines because their kids downloaded music. Abusing the trust your folks have in you is not the way to go.

Think of it this way, I am thinking about letting my 10 year old kid use the internet. Now just as I have rules about where he goes, who his friends are, when he has to be home, and how to behave in the house, so too must there be rules for internet conduct. I am perplexed as how to limit his online activities. I don't mind him emailing his friends, or playing games on the net, but where do I draw the line on the negative activities, access to porn, unmoderated chat forums, music and file sharing, and obscene pictures in email. As it is obscene spam makes it near impossible to have a safe email account.

You are lucky you music was not trashed. Quit whining about a two week grounding, be thankful you don't lose your online privileges, worse yet your dirtbike, or any other activity you like.

Your folks are police, judge and jailer - best to play it cool and follow the rules.

maxkiks, it ain't easy being a parent. I go through part of the week with one kid hating me because I wouldn't let him do one thing, then another part because I told her she couldn't do another (and they are 8 and 5!) I remember what it was like, and now I appreciate the fact that the laws were laid down for me.

Then again, I've always been pure as the driven snow

and up til 9:30? Damn, I can't even make it that late now!

More than likely you are to the point or going to be getting to the point where your parents to you are the stupidest people you know. With every teen it happens, I am 18 and going to turn 19 in June and I still think that my parents most of the time are crazy. My best advice coming from someone who wanted a bike and had to get on the parental units's good side to get one. Just put up with them. Do what they say, don't argue under any sercumstances, (I CAN"T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!) also talk to them, not anything in particular. Just talk to them like an adult would. They will see that you are more mature. Then they will give you more privilages, like being able to listen to what ever music you want (at a reasonable volume level) and have two e-mail accounts. They might even get you a bike if you can show that you have earned one and that you are responsible. So good luck with them :thumb:

I'll add to Akira's post... the part about the "parents are the stupidest people".

Understand that teenagers suffer from brain damage. It's the rule. I had it, every one of my friends had it, virtually everyone that is now an adult had it. While I never wanted to admit it and hated it when I could no longer deny it, they actually knew what was best and I always didn't. When I turned 16, I was CERTAIN I knew it all. They just "don't understand". Turns-out, they did.

It comes at different times for different people, but trust me on this; there will come a day when it'll hit you. "Oh crap! They were right all the long, I finally get it!"

Just jump through their hoops. How bad do you want a bike? Bad enough that you would sell your car to buy one? I remember listening to green day, and my dad caught me and he just pulled out the cd and broke it right there infront of me. I wonder what he would have done if I was listening to rap like fiddy cent.

I would of grounded you for having 2 email accts, figure you must have something too hide, then i'd find what you might possibly be hiding

When i was in my teens, ithought my parents didnt know anything, they proved me wrong ANyways, look at it this way, your parents obviously care about you, enjoy it :thumb:

Hey since you've been getting so much "good" advice from all these oldsters I decided to put in my 2 cents. If you really wanna listen to 50 buy some headphones! My parents truely HATE eminem, but, I listen to him on head phones all the time and they have no idea!!!

It's really funny cuz they seem to think they've broken me of listening to him, Ha,ha,ha... they'll never know!!!

As I've told my own 14 YO - you don't yet know everything. And to make it worse, you don't yet know that you don't know everything.

There are going to be a few times where my judgement is going to over-rule your judgement, until such time that you have a basis for making sound decisions.

And yes, 2 Bit, Nelly and the whole crowd is off limits, after what little bit I've heard of them. That is, if the kid wants to ride with me on the weekends, or leave his room other than for school.

Really ?? I love M&M's, especially the peanut kind. And 50cent?? Love it. I got that every Saturday after I mowed the lawn. Which, by the way, I saved, along with the pay for working for my dad and mother, to purchase my first dirt bike. Of course the bike purchase was after I proved to them I was responsible and could follow the rules of "THEIR" house.
