Clymer manual vs Yamaha OEM

OK, so I just bought myself a '00 WR400 the other day and now I want to make sure I keep this baby in tiptop shape. I would like to do the majority of the work on it myself minus things like engine rebuilds and valve adjustments. For things like oil changing and air filter cleaning and chain adjusting, I plan on doing stuff like that. I was thinking about buying one of those Clymer manuals but on another forum that I visit those guys really don't care too much for it. Would it be a mistake to drop 20$ on this book for basic maintanance?

I have a Clymer manual for a KX-80/100, mostly because I didn't get any manuals with the bike (used). It appears to be a really good manual, not so much because of all the KX model-specific information, but because of all the other generic maintenance advice it offers. The OEM manuals tend to be very cut and dry regarding maintenance tasks, but the Clymer manual also provides a lot of additional tips that apply to any bike.

For the money the Clymer is great. OEM is good if you can get your hands on one but don't spend too much. I've had a Clymer's for every bike I've owned that it was available for. I've got both for my YZF and find myself using them both depending on what I'm looking for.

Just don't lend them out or you may not get them back......another story for another time .

Clymer and Haynes are excellent. Actual photos in the manuals make a big difference.
